Can anyone steer me in thr right direction for information on the uniform of a French Ensign Standard Bearer from the American Revolution?

Thanks,

Mike

Hello Mike,
The French carried 2 flags, one was the Colonel's flag, generally an all white flag with white cross , some Royal Regiments had a more elaborated stuff on them.
The other flag was the Regimental color.
They were carried by officers, they had the same uniform as their men but better cloth material.
I have painted these figures years ago, the uniform is accuerate simce i have spent a great amount of time researching them, i have included Gatinais as well.
I hope this helps.
Cheers!.

Thank you. Back to the bench.

I came across a PdF version of Lefferts 1926 definitive guide... not many illustrations but plenty of detail ref Regs for you to plough your way through

He says:
Ens.JPGEns1.JPGens2.JPGens3.JPGens4.JPGens5.JPGens6.JPGens7.JPGens8.JPGens9.JPG

Contemporary refs here: [Uniformes des régiments de France sous Louis XVI.] | Gallica (bnf.fr)

Line Regiments "on the continent of America" (according to Leffert) were:
Ens-Regts.JPG

However his listing of Brigades within Rochambeaus's army of 1780-82 is inconsistent* with this with three regiments unaccounted for.
*were some in the Americas but not involved in supporting the USA Rebels?

The following are his listing of Brigades and the extra four (as noted above: officers wore the same uniforms but better quality + rank distinctions as above)

BRIGADE BOURBONNAIOS
Royal Deux Point; Bourbonnais
Ens-DP.JPG ens-Bourb.JPG

BRIGADE SOISSONAIS
Soissonais; Saintonge (not named on the print but matches Lefferts' description)
ens-Soiss.JPG ens-Saint.JPG

BRIGADE AGENOIS
Agenois; Gatinois (aka Royal Auverge)
ens-Ang.JPG ens-Gat-R Auv.JPG

Listed by Leffert but no brigade specified:
Touraine; Foix; Hainault; Auxerrois
