Hello,
Can anybody help me for good uniform reference for the new figures of Maurice Corry (120-mini).
It is for the 5th Dragoon Guard officer and the Coldstream Guard.

Thanks

Quite right Colin, and beat me to it! I have both volumes and they would be exactly what you are looking for. As to the second book Colin referenced, anything in this series with Fosten's art is invaluable. Perhaps a more economical approach if you are just getting your feet wet in this era would also be the older Osprey books titled "The British Army On Campaign", which is a four book series focused on Victoria's "little wars', with the second volume dedicated to the Crimean war. BTW, how nice is that Dragoon Officer?

Hi Ben, I'm afraid I don't have a scanner here at home so I can't help you with pictures.

What exactly are you looking for - both boks are very detailed with manyp lates, dress regs, items or equipment etc. Do you have specific questions?

Colin

A bit on the expensive side but in my opinion well worth it, is the Schiffer book "Crimean Memories: Artefacts of the Crimean War, Will Hutchison, Michael Vice and B.J. Small. . This is a beautifully full colour photographed and produced book. There is good coverage of all arms of the army, although I would have liked to have seen a bit more on the Cavalry regts and being on the biased side more on the Highland regiments. The great thing is it is the British army...the bad, it is the British army;) I would love to see similar volumes on the French/Turkish army and especially the Russian army

I just got the Coldstream Guard figure - unfortunately the musket end is broken and I was looking for a 1854 Enfield replacement. I did some research on the uniform. Here some pics.

Hi Ben,
here are some more helpful books:

- Uniforms&Weapons of the Crimean War by Robert Wilkinson-Latham
- Uniforms of the Foot Guards by Brian Fosten & W.Y.Carman
- Uniforms of the British Army, Uniforms of the British Cavalry both by W.Y.Carman
- Historic Uniforms Vol. 5 & 6 by Liliane and Fred Funcken

You can find these books (like me) often at EBay U.K.

The Guards Star on the turnback was white with an uniformbutton in the centre. The buttons were made from pewter.
The barrel of my Guardsmans rifle was broken, too. I´ve replaced it with a brasstube of nearly the same diameter. Looks more realistic than the original.
On the backpack (knapsack) normaly a badge was worn. But this figure wears only the folded greatcoat and a blanket on the back, so there was no badge.

Hope this is helpful for you

Greetings Thomas

Thomas just beat me to it... but
The re-enactor is supposed to be aGrenadier, not a Coldstream. ( Beware re-enactors : they are often very good, but they are NOT original references . Where's his moustache ? He has a P.53 3-band Enfield, rather than the P.51 Minie which he should have , etc ))
The Coldstream had the Garter Star , not the Royal Cipher , on their collars and packs. And the turnback badge was a Regimental pewter button on a white embroidered star.
I know you only want details to paint one figure, but you will never regret investing in books. They discuss the whys and wherefores, and give the deeper picture .

I have these books for British uniforms but don't have access to them until the weekend (I'm out of town) If I see something in them - I'll post it.

Ben-n , the Garter Star is white embroidery on the soldier's uniforms, with a pewter ( silver) button in the centre.
The Garter Stars appear on the collar , and on the turnbacks . All the other buttons are also silver.
On the backpack ( not worn in the early battles in the Crimea ) it was painted white , with a red cross in the centre of the white Star.
