Hi
I am asking this question on behalf of a friend of mine.
He tells me this company produced Uniform Discs.

If they are still trading they are/were based in Texas.

He asks, if he cannot order from them, has anyone got any they are
prepared to sell or swap.

Thank's in advance

Frank

Frank,

Beware. I would normally never say anything about a merchant-but then again 99.9% in this hobby are good businessmen.

I have had many dealings with Phillip Cranz who is the owner of Uniformology. He sells printed plates from uniform books (he was also the publisher of a magizine prior to HM coming out). Never pay him up front. Order and then pay him when you receive the goods (even then you are likely to wait a loooong time). You're even likely to still wait a long time. I wouldn't go so far as to call him dishonest in as much as he is irresponsible and a master of excuses.

Also, be carefull with what you order. Some of the prints are very nice. Others are no more than a scan from a book that is blown up (badly) and printed from a common $100 inkjet printer. Were they very reasonably priced, ok, but when you are paying a few dollars per sheet, you expect more than just good paper.

Just though you should be aware.

Frank,

Lou beat me to it!! I would never and I mean never, never ever send this man money up front. I would have him send me the product and then pay for it! I have had many dealings and should I say answer machine dealings with this man. I have had promises broken and then no answers. It is not in me to speak ill will about a person but if the shoe fits then so be it. :)

You can do as you like but you can also listen to what others have said. ;) I know that there are others on PF who have probably had the same kind of experience with Mr. Philip Cranz.

Good luck,
Joe

Frank,
Well, seems that Lou and Joe beat me to it. I couldn't agree more with them. I got burned with his "magazine endeavor" - a 1-year subscription that never came to fruition. This guy's business practices make NAFTA look like a sensible economic policy.

Buyer Beware is truly applicable in this case. I would never under any circumstances deal with Uniformology and Phil Cranz.

Thank you all so much
for taking the time to make me aware of the sharp practice
that this company/individual operates under.

I intend to go with your advice and advise my friend to do likewise.

Once again many thanks

Frank

Frank,
Your perdiciment is all too familiar...I waited almost three months for my "order" and when it arrived, it was wrong, dead wrong. I made the fatal mistake of paying up front...bad call on my part.

I echo many of the same sentiments you have heard here...
I'd whop his candy ass if he crawled outa his hole!

Beware...

All the best

Patrick

I'll thro in my $.02 (CDN) in here as well. "I Won't Be Fooled Again" (apologies to the "Who" for the slight play on words). In short .... don't deal with him !!!!!

Well I've been called many things since chilhood and a "sock puppet" has never been one of them. I was looking around on a miniature war gaming site and saw a posting on one of their message boards titled "A nod to Uniformology" or something like that. A customer posted a positive message about them and I in turn posted one giving general advice in using caution in dealing with them. Uniformology came back with a response asking why I had posted the message as I did not have an outstanding order with them. I Personally I did not think much of their response as I was just trying to caution folks when dealing with them. I do find the "sock puppet" thing kind've amusing though. I can almost hear John Cleese's taunting French Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. have a great day guys.~Gary

Gee Gary, I would've never thought you a vicious insurgent "sock puppet" out to sew the seeds of anarchy  The fact that he (Senor Cranz) gets so pissy over "general advice" speaks volumes about his past business practices.

Pete, My posting on the site was not nasty, I was just giving some sound advice for those that chose to deal with him. Insurgent "sock puppet"? That's funny.~Gary

I got this email today......and all I can say is

.............................................."BEWARE"

The email is copy / pasted below

"As one of our old acquaintances we would like to give you one of our new Uniformology military uniform reference cd's FREE with no strings attached just for visiting our website. Just go to www.uniformology.com and take a look at the CD list from the pull down menu and take your pick of any of the 37 CD's available and we will send it to you.
Thanks for taking the time.
UNIFORMOLOGY"

Again.......you have never seen me warn anyone about a vendor......and many of you may get this email as I did............BEWARE

The more I experience with him the more I will tell anyone- If he is giving away 100% real diamonds, don't take them, there is bound to be a catch somewhere. The fact that he attacked Gary (of all people) on the Miniatures page speaks volumes. The gentleman who wrote to him on there mimicked my experiences with him. "You don't have to pay until you get it" - but you never get it. When you ask he ignores you and attacks you. He sends out mail, SPAM, all sorts of nonsense and when you try to buy, he s$@ws you. I once even got an order from him (wrong and 3 months later) where the things stunk to high heaven of cigar smoke. I'm a cigar smoker and they made me nautious!

He complains about people copying "his" stuff. Which is another interesting note. All of the plates are marked C(copyright) Uniformology. Does he truly own the copyrights on all of those plates? Marbot, Knotel, Ruhl, all of those plates are his?

They are nothing more than inkjet printing on 80lb paper of a scanned JPEG from a book. Some of them aren't even that good. You're better off borrowing a book from a friend and scanning it photocopying it yourself-and probably legally more correct in doing so.

He always breaks short of actual fraud (maybe because he knows how to avoid it legally) but as a businessman I wouldn't even take money from him.

Gary- that one just may hang with you.....

"Sock Puppets strike at dawn!!!!"- coming soon to a theatre near you.....

Heck, it's better than what VW calls you......

See what trying to help gets ya?
