In all seriousness Ray, that Cameron tartan you have painted is nothing short of remarkable my friend, a work of art in itself!!!
I know I made the tongue in cheek "sucker for a man in a skirt" comment, but I do like highlanders, I have sculpted and painted many over the years, and speaking purely from a commercial point of view, if they were slight easier to sell I would produce more.
The tartan is the thing that makes them but unfortunately it's also the indgredient that restricts the sales!
I do occasionally allow my heart to rule and I surcome to urge to sculpt an man in a skirt!!!
But that really is a outstanding piece of work mate, maybe the best tartan I've ever seen!
Brilliant!!!!!
Carl
Has that earnt me a pint or two at Euro mate?????? He He He!!!
Carl you are really pushing your luck mate
but I think you deserve at least TWO pints at Euro
Joking apart, I also like highlanders quite a lot even though apart from the Highland King, I haven't painted any other Scots
but that green & beige Avatar of mine is very much a highlander which except for the face and boots is all scratch. But I haven't shown him anywhere yet as he was supposed to be ready last year, but things beyond my control, just before my attempt to sculpt a pair of 120mm hands saw me shelving him round April of last year.......then I had to adjust and adapt of what to get ready for Euro last year. This year I think will be the same, as we went to Catania last December, and we're going to WNT in Spain in April, so I have to really sit back and adjust and adapt yet again
Also, apart from both hands, I do have to go back and tweak here and there on things that might have escaped me last year or I overlooked in my over enthusiasm to get him done since I am no sculptor
but I do get a kick when I knead some putty and shape it into something recognizable really and especially knowing that you're doing a ONE OF even if it might look like a SCARECROW
Ironically, the main reason I sent for this Piper from Steve Kirtley after I came from Euro (what a dumb head I am eh when I could have bought it from there lol) was to use it as a sort of reflective pattern (quite a high one with Maurizio's sculpting) to tweak my highlander. But then this WNT cropped up and we decided to participate as Team Malta, so I had to twist yet again my plans. But I'll do anything for Club and Country (sounding like a Hospitaller here for God and Country, or was it for King and Country, or God and Glory lol)
Carl, as I said earlier, I got inspired to paint the tartan in that way, when I saw Pietro Balloni's exquisite painting of Pegaso's bare chested highlander at last year's Euro in Class2! I never before fathomed that a tartan COULD be painted in that realistic manner, so I had Pietro's highlander SAVED on my PC and I followed and adapted accordingly for my Piper
Cheers mate
