Upgrades are rolling smoothly so far, with minor issues.

To keep communication with members open I set up this temporary forum. This forum is the only one that will permit new topics and replies during the freeze so bear in mind that when the cut-over to the new board is final anything within this forum will not be there, in other words any hold any good content till the conversion is complete ;)

I'll keep progress posted when I can it has been a very long night 8)

Hi Gordy

really appreciate thr time you're putting in doing this, and really looking forward to the results.

cheers

Rob

Gordy, Like Rob I too appreciate all that you and the Planet figure staff have done to make this the best site dedicated to the miniature figure on the web.~Gary

Fair play - ill kids as well!

Any idea as to completion? Sounds like a major project!

Rob

Gray, did you not see the roadmap I posted the other day?

Everything is progressing smooth so far:

All four planet sites databases merged successfully
Members of all sites are now merged (one login for each site forum)
Topics and posts successfully transferred

The only thing lost is signatures, for whatever reason all members had the exact same signature, ironically, "...Our politicians and pundits happily supply us with the voodoo dolls and the pins..." so I relunctantly whacked all signatures from the database.

What's left?
Some permissions tweaking, skinning and touchups, looking possibly the end of the week to wrap it up. Like I said before I hate to make a commitment to a set date, I have no idea what might spring up, there's no instruction sheet with this project!

Hello Gordy,

As I never had to deal with the nuts-and-bolts of computering, I guess I'll never realize the scope of the job at hand.

In any case, thank you for your commitment and good luck!

It's amazing how you miss something like this - we end up taking it for granted! Still, a chance to review older posts.

I can imagine it's a major piece of work!

Are our sigs intact? or should I save mine from the temp location if I want to keep it?

Rob

Gordy

The job is not one that I envy, knowing as I do as Quang puts it some of the nuts and bolts of how a computer works.

Thanks for putting the time in , thought the last thing you need is any of us hassling you at this time.

Robin

Hi Gordy, thank you very much, for all that you are doing, I know that we all appreciate it.
Don't let anybody pressure you, take your time,we know you have a family, and that is top priority.

Amazing, petty complaints from those who contribute the least and who are only concerned about their free advertisements.

Keep up the great work and thanks again.

Cheers
Roc.

Here, here Roc!
;)

Gordy,
You are doing great...when it's done, it's done...I really appreciate all that you are doing.

All the best

Thanks all,

the transition is coming along nicely, just time consuming, I have alot more to do but the hardest is over, I and the staff have full plates and have been recieving many emails about the downtime and we want to avoid any troubles and have to put out any fires before this is done, the staff and I are a little high-strung at the moment - I beg your pardon from my curtness :)

This is just my opinion, you weren't Curt, Roc wasn't, right maybe, those that don't understand should stay quiet. The staff here do an outstanding job, better than any other forum I visit.

If people who don't know question the people who do they should expect curt answers not that any were given, I thought your answer was well modulated and matter of fact.

There is no need to apologies from you or any of the staff to anyone.

I think Roc hit it on the head. No one else is complaining just giving encouragement and patiently waiting perhaps he should do the same.

Robin

PS hope the family is better soon.

I agree with Robin...no need to apologize. What you and the staff here do is truly amazing. This too shall pass. Hang in there my friend!

I for one can wait. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and take a breath. It's so easy in this day and age to want something right away. The dedication the staff at Pf have for this site is beyond amazing, They definitely have made this a great community to be a part of.

As for nasty remarks, what benefit do they serve? In my opinion Gray DOES make a valuable contribution to the site as do OTHER vendors and manufacturers that avail themselves of "free advertising".

In November I created a situation that offended some of the membership. I chose to do the one thing that was best for this site in order to diffuse the situation. What was most important was the matter was mostly taken care in private without causing further hard feelings and putting folks into a position to take sides.

So while the Pf staff toils away at bettering the site let's try to use the Temp forum in a "pot-shot" free manner.~Gary
