Nice work. It might be improved a bit by giving the arm a bit more length. The neck looks long and his shoulders go straight across. You could angle them a bit.~Gary

A little history about the 1st Louisiana Native Gaurd.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Louisiana_Native_Guard

The photo shows uniformed men but the wikipedia says that the South did not issue them uniforms. I wonder if this may be a case of the Not so Blue and the not so Grey. We tend to think of the Civil war that way but there were units on both sides that wore grey and blue uniforms. Or this may be a publictiy photo.

Here is a better site about the unit.

Here is a piece that goes in to why some blacks served the south. I do not quite understand why they would serve the south but the fact is they did.

It's true that both sides had units with, let's say, the enemy's colours but this was mainly in the beginning of the war. Especially the north had enough means to give their troops the same blue uniform.
since Coloured troops weren't formed in the first years of the war, I doubt it if there were any coloured regiments in the north wearing grey uniforms.
It's a different story of course with the southern regiments.

The arm does seem a little off. It is mainly the hand that throws it off, it is at a angle. Make a fist and place it on your hip. Your wrist stays pretty straight. It should also push in to the jacket more. right now it just rests on the surface.

The period photo is of a colored UNION unit raised during the war. This unit did not fight for the Confederacy. The men in the image are wearing sky blue kersey greatcoats and trousers with blue forage caps. Though you cannot see the detail the equipment is almost certainly Federal and they have what look to be round eagle plates on thier chests and oval belt plates.~Gary

Djoubrim,

Your figure looks pretty good. How may pieces have you made? Just in case you think, I do not like the piece I do. When we post stuff in this board we get comments form the sculptors that have more experience then we do. Somtimes we may not like what we hear. It may seem drastic to change something you think is finished. I have found that if I take the advice of these guys my figures turn out better even if I have to go in and rework part of a piece.

Best
Jeff

Thank you for the comments and infos.
I hope to better do the next time ...
Djoubrim, Please do not take any comments made about your work to be offensive. They are meant to be constructive and to possibly help improve a current project or a future one.

It's very easy to say "nice work" or "great job". In many instances this "back patting" goes a little overboard at times, on this and other forums. Though compliments are fine and serve to encourage one to continue. An honest critique of your work can only be harmful if you do not look at it with an open mind.~Gary

 I'm afflicted that you could perceive that through my remarks but that undoubtedly come from that I speak English little: My answers are thus short.

I don't feel offended and I agree completely with what you say ! :)

Sincerely no problems I would continue to subject my work to you

just a thing: my name is Djoubri not djoubrim ... thank you all
