Hi guys,

does anyone have any tips for achieving the pinstripe effect on USMC utility uniforms? image below

Also does anyone have a colour mix for the camo helmet cover?

Good brush, paint at just the right consistency, steady hand, practice. That's really it in a nutshell!

Of course many people just don't try to replicate it ;) Even at 1/16 it's very difficult for anyone to get the effect truly in scale and with smaller figures you should probably consider if at scale distance the stripes would be visible at all.

What have you tried?

If you take the pic you posted into Photoshop or similar and blur it to remove any fabric texture it should be easier to 'read' the colours more accurately. You need a beige or light sand, a medium brown, a darker brown, a khaki green and a sort of grassy green; pick whatever you have that's closest to each one and tweak as needed.

I used basically an olive drab with the stripes highlighted at the top of the folds.Vallejo and semco are very good.By combining local washes for folds and a more creamier /opaque colour for the highlightes stripes with practise can be done.It needs patience.
