Young Miniatures' US Naval Aviator in 1/10 scale in my usual oils and acrylics. The colourful flying helmet is based on an Edward Steichen photo of VF-16 pilots on the USS Lexington in late 1943:
Great work. Love the way you painted the clear goggles. Interesting photo as it appears some of the pilots have clear goggles and some shaded (unless the different angles to the sun give that impression). Doug
Beautiful finish, and as others mentioned, your finish with the goggles is excellent! That's a tough detail to replicate, and yours look real.
The coloring is an interesting detail, too. I didn't know that any USN aviators did that. I guess they painted the stripe down the middle of the helmet. I wonder if that was to find those pilots quickly in the crowd on the flight deck. It was probably relatively visible to someone flying alongside, too. I'll have to look it up.
To Hobbes' point about tinted goggles, that's my trick for my 1/48 and 1/72 flight crew figures-I paint the lenses brown and call 'em tinted. Easiest way to deal with them in smaller scales
Well I think it's already been said..... beautiful painting. Maybe one day I will be able to create a peice so perfectly done (I've got all of my fingers and toes crossed)
Great to see you posting , really like the textures on the straps and the flesh tones, with the helmet adding more interest as well ...learnt something as well
