I've just repainted this after having found it tucked away in storage. A quick dip of Dettol and a rub over with a toothbrush and it was ready to go.

A typically odd Verlinden sculpt, that looks nothing like it's subject, anti-Bolshevik forces commander Lavr Kornilov, but nice to paint none-the=less.

Hi Peter

This is a really nice release from Verlinden and one I certainly enjoyed painting

You have done a great job not overall but the painting of the uniform and the medals

Nice work on scar as well

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Nicely painted Peter. This bust dates from the period when Verlinden was churning them out three or four a month and most of them were execrable. This one isn't as bad as some but as you say, it ain't Kornilov. I don't think it is a Derek Holmes sculpt, as if it was it would have a full set of dentures! I may be wrong - Nap might know?

Thanks for looking in people.

Phil - I don't think it's by Derek Holmes either - no teeth, staring wrinkly eyes, thread-like eyebrows etc. A really weird head, as all of the facial features are concentrated in a small triangle at the front. Still, it was cheap and good fun to paint.

Morning Peter

This is a quicky then!

The weather isn't slowing you down with poor light?

I guess there will be a goodly stash of s0-so busts and figures that you aren't too enamored with in boxes in the attic.

Always good to have another go, to see if you can better your previous results.

I'll have to be quicker on my fingers to keep up if your doing a bust a day!

Enjoy the paints as they are really working well for you at the moment

Regards

Morning Steve

This was a two-dayer - just felt like a quick repaint of something relatively simple. The light isn't too bad at the moment with all the reflective snow, but my workspace is a bit chilly to say the least.

Hi Peter

Blimey done in 2 days ...suppose speed painting keeps you warm

I thought this might be Derek Holmes but as you rightly say no teeth! ...on the subject always liked the WW1 German Verlinden released ...with teeth !

Possibly Jukian Hullis ? ...good thread from 12 years ago https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/verlinden.36491/

Got me thinking now .....not a good thing !

Happy Benchtime

I knew Derek Holmes quite well. I hesitate to speak ill of him now he's gone, but he did think he was God's gift to figure sculpting. My youngest brother (also sadly gone) got Derek into figures seriously by advertising for someone to take on some of his commission work. Both of them were oddballs:confused:

Nice paint job on the German bust Peter, but I see what you mean.

Phil

Nice that you knew him Phil. I personally don't have a problem with his sculpts, though I can see why some people find them odd.
