This might occupy me for the coming rainy weeks or months, slowly advancing to completion.

Bedankt Mario

That’s a great bust, I’ll have to follow along, I’m sorely lacking in busts or figures of the softer nature.

Thanks Mike. After fifty years of painting mostly male subjects, this figure is quite a challenge for me too.

Thanks Rob and Nap.

I forgot to mention that this lovely lady has some embroidery on the back of her jacket too:

Now maybe some words about how I intend to tackle all this bling?

I sketched in the embroidery with a mix of gold printer's ink & WN Burnt Umber oil.

Once this is dry , every ornament will be outlined with a wash of W&N Brown Madder; then the jacket shadowed with touches of Purple Madder, highlighted with a mix of Winsor Red Deep and Naples Yellow, wet on dry. This will also reduce the glossy look of the jacket.

Suitably dried, then the embroidery will be individually highlighted with the usual stippling with Naples Yellow Dark and NYD Light.

At that point I will have aged several days or weeks and hopefully be ready to pick out some details with Lefranc & Bourgeois Iredescent White and some others with Alizarine Red to simulate more fake baubles in some ornaments.

By then, autumn will be upon us and all there will rest me to do is painting the cape with a flowery freehand pattern and having a go at the fan.

In the meantime some samurai will hopefully protect me from insanity!

Thanks for your patience,

Pierre

Hi Pierre

Cracking on with this ...lots of bling and patterns ......stay normal ...paint a medal or.....several ...lol

A lot going on but no doubt you will make this look great

I do like this sculpt but.....thankfully got enough going on

Have fun

With constant rain interspersed with downpours bringing back memories of muggy times in tropical latitudes, I thought it a sensible option to paint the lady's cape with a first coat of oils.
W&N Phtalo Turquoise with a speck of Chrome Oxide Green and some first highlights with Tit.White did the job.

Once dry careful highlights and shadows, applied wet on dry, will reduce the sheen and provide the canvas for some flowery adventure!
We oily guys are a shiny bunch indeed!
cheers,
Pierre

Hi Pierre

"On the fly or not " that's some cracking painting so far , very colourful and going to be very impressive

Like the way you've done the pearls in amongst the golds

Thanks for sharing

Have FUN @ the bench

She is looking wonderful, that Bolero jacket is a bit of a trial, so many individual detail elements in such a small space.

I like that you are tackling her in a different style than the FeR boxart version. That is extremely well painted but the style is so "clean" that it is almost soulless.
I must admit a temptation to pick up a few of the FeR historic girls even though my intention was only 1/10 or bigger busts. They are expensive though.

Some progress on the Spanish Maja, lots of time consuming painting fun on this bust! But give me a warrior with a handful of medals anytime.

However the end is in sight: fringes of the cape, right sleeve and shoulder embroidery and the hair ornament still to be done. The fan is ready and waiting.

Here she is, duly protected by two level-headed Russian marshals!

Wonderful piece, all the gold work is impressive and then you go in with free hand patterns, it's a beautiful job.

Cheers Simon
