I got a bottle of this a few weeks ago to try out on my next project. Can anyone give some tips on its correct usage please?

I am assuming that-:

1). It is mixed with acrylic paint to add transparancy to paint depending on the ratio.

2). The paint and medium mix would still need thinning with water (but by how much). Or, is one thinned before adding the other un thinned?

3). That this will have a different effect than just using a very thin watery glaze, but if so, in what way is it different?

Any advice including correcting my assumptions greatly appreciated as always.

Cheers Roger. I think Nap uses it sometimes, sure it was him that mentioned it. Never thought to look on their site but I suspect the way it is used in painting and figure painting may differ in action if not in principle. I will pop and have a look :)

Hi Graham,

Just caught this ....I do use the glazing medium , one drop is all I put into your thinned working mix ..seems to work fine with that ratio, I also use a blending medium as well alongside which gives me a working time.

Any difference to using watery glaze ..no really I think it's more pure so no risk of any little bit being put onto surface if you use tap water ...I don't ..distilled for me...no ice or lemon!!!

A glaze or a wash..what's the difference well IMO not particularly much .

Have go if you can't get on ..I will buy it from you!

Happy glazing

I have been using Vallejo glazing medium for a while now. I mix it 1:1 with paint and thin that down with water a bit to make it less pasty. I use it with red/brown paint over an ocre base to imitate wooden parts of rifles.
I see this mix as an alternative for (burnt siena) oil paint.
In my view the glaze/paint mixture behaves differently than just the thinned paint. I think it is easier to get an even semi-transparent coat.

Thanks for the advice guys. I hope to give it a go later. Got the base flesh and eyes done(ish) so I need to get moving now.

Sadly, the afternoon was lost to making sausages and burgers. Not so sadly, I have just had them for my tea and very nice they were too :)

Anyway, wash up, cup of tea and back to the bench.....

Bit of progress on the Elan13 Steampunk Sky Pirate and the Wargriffon 54mm Druid.

Think I am starting to see how the glazing medium works out but may have done some damage as it thickens up the paint a fair bit. I find it works best to get a thin paint mix and then just add a dip of the paintbrush of medium.

Slightly annoying is that it is very glossy but at least you can tell where it was used. No problem to matt it down afterwards.
