Hi
Really like what you have done on this figure and would buy a kit of it if it was produced.
Two things that I would say if it was me finishing it ( if I could do what you have done )
1 replace the head with a good resin one and two the arm holding the the gun seems to bend alittle strange where the glove end meets the arm, I thought in could be a little straighter......................just my thoughts
Also are you going to put more equipment on his belt at the back or leave as is?
Thanks guys!
I agree with you Jamie. So no more creases.
I mix the milliput for 2-3 minutes. After this I use only a scalpel, a long needle, and 2-3 synthetic brushes(not expensive ones...but they must be new or in good condition).Oh...and water. For the clothing I used thin sheets of milliput. This can be done after 1h 2h max. After this(2h-3h) the milliput becomes rubbery and doesn't stick to anything.
This is the part that gave me headaches as I couldn't finnish anything and had to carv/sculp later in the hard putty. Then I figured that I could add thin stripes of milliput and work on th details again from there. So that is why I want something that hardens when I want it to.Even after 3 days.
Paul, I see what you are saying about the arm.I won't do anything radical but I am going to change it a bit.The head is OK for my figure.I'll post some clear shots of it soon.No need to change it.I have all the equipment, but I'll add it later.
First off great job on the figure, I am a new member myself and used to just paint figures but got into sculpting. **With the pose you have and the demeanor, if you were to just tilt the head down a bit it, would look more like a demanding action pose as opposed to a relaxing directional pose. "not sure what the figures looking at",did you get this idea off of a reference?Just thought I would shoot that out at ya. The figure looks fantastic! Great work, I would like to see this painted. Keep updating the progress.
Derek
For an early/first sculpt, not to mention struggling with the medium, this is really good. The bulk of the garments and their overall appearance looks right (better than many commercial pieces in fact!)
Some sculptors rely a great deal on carving and other shaping when the putty has hardened, so this is not something one should avoid completely. Although I think it's better to work with 'wet' putty as much as possible (more subtle shaping + better finish) a certain amount of trimming, smoothing and other final touches on the cured putty can be necessary at times.
For smoothing off I think steel wool is good, finishing with 0000 grade if you can get it. I follow this by buffing with a scrap of fabric if I want to polish the surface even smoother.

I have attempted Milliput in the past, and was less then enthralled with it.
The mixing hassle and the tendency to form a skin are not exactly selling points, although obviously one can achieve great results using even the Grey/Green. I'm sure I'd be better at dealing with it now, if I had to, but I'd certainly prefer to stick with MS or Apoxie Sculpt.
Thanks fellas!
Derek, you MUST try this sculpting thing. It's very rewording!!!
I planned my figure to have a proud look as he gazed at the horizon about to point something at the enemy lines.A bit of showing off too.
I think one of my mistakes is that I worked on large areas and that's why I didn't have time and had to carv later.
I tried to smooth the milliput with a toothbrush and polishing compound(toothpaste or diamond dust if I want to sand a lot of putty).I found about the toothpaste in one of your posts, and it works perfect.
Thats great paul obviously that makes sense, and proud well you can totally see that in this figure. I actually did start on a figure, not as clean cut but the face is check it out on my thread when you get a chance. Anyways keep up the good work. Plus any input from you let me know...
I like the creases. I think it looks as if its a bit worn. Material gets thinner and more brittle in harsh weather such as the freezing temps of Russia so I believe it looks real. Leave it it's fine. Great job on the sculpting, you certainly have a great talent. I tried to do a face from milliput once it turned out like E.T.
Hey how I can really see whats going on with the pose. Very NICE! Can't wait to see this guy painted! I actually re-worked my figure and thanks for the comments.
I'm very glad that you guys like him!
Derek, I've seen your re-worked figure. You are on the good path my friend!Let's hope we stay that way in the future.
Sniper, I plan on sculpting the hand to the Mp44 to look more realistic. After that is's only paint, brush and airbrush...
Mat, thanks for the kind words! The ground looks pretty good to me too.Nothing to fancy, just a ruined cottage...but it will do the job.
