Great soundtrack, fantastic actors & actresses and all of Waititi's films I've seen rock. Definitely one for me!

In his 1964 autobiography, Charley Chaplin stated that he could not have made the comedy drama "The Great dictator" if he had known about the true extent of the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps at the time. Nevertheless this film is setting the standards IMHO if we talk about Nazi-comedies... we will see if Jojo Rabbit can meet them.
Btw Adolf Hitler was a fan of Chaplin`s films and there is a good probability that he watched this film in his private cinema at the Berghof:sick:

So the really interesting question is: -Did Hitler have self distance enough to apreciate the film?
He doesnt strike me as a person with self distance although being totally different in private as of is public appearances.

no idea - my information was taken from the book of his bodyguard Rochus Misch who mentioned that Hitler watched films of Charlie Chaplin and liked them a lot but although the Berghof`s personnel was allowed to join in and watch the films Rochus Misch was not interested and could not tell further details.

The really interesting question for me is if all things of the past lend themselves as good stuff for a comedy - therefore I quoted Charlie Chaplin and I initially thought that your German title of this thread which translates as "What the hell..." would express a similar doubt.

Cheers, Martin
