washes for silver armour

What colours would you folks suggest to use for washes on a dark silver armour (silver glazed with sepia). I am trying to get a worn look.

I tend to underpaint in dark grey or dark brown and "wash" printers ink over it until I get the metallic effect I want, but I know there are dozens of more accomplished painters out there.

how do you wash with the inks same as with oils?
