The weekend of September 11th and 12th brought on the annual West Australian Model expo, with a good range of all modelling on display, the figures were the ones to marvel over. I have uploaded some pics of what was on offer to see over the weekend.
Tony Dawe may be able to add his touch as to what figures won what in the medal awards and by whom.
Thanks for looking,
Ben

Cheers Ben, great pics mate. Thanks for posting them.

Planeteers dominated the Figures category again, with Ben Flood (Figure Lover) being awarded First Place in Vignettes with his conversion of "Stampede", which also was awarded the Empire Hobbies prize for Best Figure (thanks once again for your support Ian (busso boy)).

Ben also was awarded First place in Sci-Fi/ Fantasy figures for his magnificent Boba Fett and First in Large Scale figures with his Greek Fokides(?).

Daniel Kitsak (dannyk01) (16 years old) won the Intermediate Figures section and was also awarded the Vickeridge Prize for Best Junior Modeller for his Adolf Hitler figure.

Scott Murray (khogor) was awarded Highly Commended's for both his Pirate bust and his Chinese General (Jackie Chan) bust and did very well in the Sci Fi figures with his manga-esque "Proposal" figure and Mutant Spiderman. These won Places didn't they Scott??

Chris Walden (loosehead) came second in the Busts category with his Eastern Viking and Lloyd Chidgzey (Lloyd) came third with his scratchbuilt Ned Kelly bust (which was awesome).

I was fortunate to receive second and third in the Large scale figures category with my Royal Marine Commando and British Infantryman Afghanistan, First in Small Scale figures with my Roman Aqilifer, First in Busts with my 3rd New York Regiment militiaman and Highly Commended for my WW1 ANZAC vignette ("Journey's End").

WASMEx is a very small show by international standards, but its the most important event on the Western Australian modelling calendar, and a highlight in my year. Its vry pleasing to see kids, who weren't even born when we started WASMEx back in 1999, now entering their kits in the competition and enjoying the hobby of scale modelling.

Some great pieces there, congrats to those who did well. I'm looking forward to going to a show one day, would be great to see some of these pieces in the flesh.

The Proposal (the girl in the wedding dress in Ben's photos for everyone not at WASMEX) won second place in the fantasy/sci fi category. Beaten of course by Ben Flood himself :-D
I was very happy with the second place. The fantasy category is getting better every year

Spiderman missed out on all awards with a gundam taking out the commended certificate. Not to worry. I should of done him in oils anyways. Was a quick easy figure :)

#edit# I forgot to mention that I was extremely lucky to get two highly commended's in the bust category! That was a great achievement. Gotta keep on working hard and try and get into the medals next time :) will have it hard though competitng against you and Chris :-D hahah

Hi Scotty,

Each year you've competed at WASMEx you've achieved better results than the year before. More importantly you've asked for feedback from the judgesand acted upon their feedback to improve the quality of your painting. This year was your best year yet and the quality of your entries reflects your growth as a modeller and a painter.

Don't get too concerned about competing against anyone else. While its always nice to get recognition and rewards, the only person you're truly in competition with is yourself.

If I have my way, there will be a new Masters Category added to WASMEx next year that will see the playing field leveled and give yourself and a number of aspiring figure modellers a chance to compete for medals on an even playing field.

Keep improving like you have been and you will be dominating the figures category in a few years time and I'll be coming to you for advice and tips -ha ha.
