I have build a hughe ( if find it hughe) WW 1 Trench. It is for NCO German Infantery 120 mm backdrop. But I cannot find the right oilpaint mix for making the wood looks like it is weathered out and turn into grey.
I know I have seen somewhere a SBS but I cannot find it.
Any help in the good direction is a good help.

I've always had good results from simply staining the raw wood with washes of Ivory Black oils to grey the wood down. I'll also do a few thin washes of Raw Umber or Burnt Umber as well just for variation. Not overly complicated but it works for me.

Please share the completed dio with us.

Cheers,

Brian

I stain raw wood with burnt umber washes (acrylic in my case FWIW).

Marc,
There is a product called "Weather it" made by a Company called A-West and it ages unpainted wood. It is made for model railroading.

Humbrol matt 84 applied with airbrush "I know you have one" :) drybrush with an off white mix when dry overnight washes of raw umber oils should do the trick.

Hi Sippog, that was the one I did as part 1 of a 2 part SBS on MMM 200 mm ACW figure. Part 2 was in issue 5.
Have pointed Marc towards it.

Marc,...

I remember following Ron's, (Kagemusha), .. SBS! on this 'Trench' and the attached figure very closely, .. and I have to say it is an excellent example, of the flexible use of, Inks, Pastels, and a bit of paint!.. with some bits of 'Balsa wood',... I for one learnt a lot of methods that I had not previously considered. I would say, it is very much worthwhile investing a couple of Euro, in the magazine that, 'Sippog', has highlighted,.. or you could PM Ron, to pick his brains! ..... I did :D,... A very helpful guy. Regards,

Mark

Mark it take a few years before wood takes on that grey weathered look , I doubt any of the timber in the trenches had time to get to that state unless it come from some old wood pile already in that condition . Wet and muddy would be more in keeping .
