Rummaging through my grey army I find Soviet snipers, male and female, pilots, scouts and other heroic defenders of the Motherland galore, but alas no great names from the Russian Civil War, apart from a Chapaev bust and an old Verlinden Kornilov officer.

Of course, from Legion Miniatures come some excellent busts of generals like Bagration, Yermolov and even a WW2 Rokossovskiy, but where are Wrangel, Kolchak or Denikin, to name but a few?

I wonder...

Hi Pierre

A good question my friend , there are a few about as Mirosoft says but not many

Legion have just released a Peter the Great which I will review very soon

As well as Russian Civil War ( great pictures in the Osprey books ) I would like to see Imperial Russia looked at more some fantastic uniforms and I am sure Martin Rohmann has one or 2 Cossacks he would like ......Napoleonic for example

In 1/32nd there are many Russian figures https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/ratnik-ekb.214594/

Happy bench time

you will find lot of proposals even stock at Amazon

Sorry guys, I didn't make myself understood!

I am aware of the existing busts of Russian subjects, some of them correct, others not so. My post is about good quality and correctly sculpted new busts I'd like to see.

And to be perfectly honest: Lenin, Stalin, Trotski are not in the same league as a Wrangel, Kolchak or Denikin!

cheers,

Pierre

Hi Pierre

No problem ...I have slightly amended the thread title

Perhaps a message to Legion or Altores might be fruitful ...they are always happy to listen

Thanks again Kevin!

Good idea to nudge the "locals", I'll do that. As a regular 'user' of their wares, they might be willing to take some suggestions. There are some excellent sculptors active in Russia, as proven by the products od Legion, Medieval Forge and Altores. Legion's Peter the Great is already on my wish list, that great revolutionary ages before the revolution.

cheers,

Pierre

Inevitably, it is the same issue that keeps cropping up. Manufacturers have to gauge the potential sales of a subject, due to the high costs involved in bringing a model to market, so tend to err on the side of caution, regarding releases. As a commercial sculptor myself, there is nothing I like more than the "offbeat" or niche subjects, as they make for interesting research and can be challenging to get the detailing as accurate as possible. Unfortunately, many of these subjects do not attract the widespread appeal needed for bulk sales, so do not ever reach the marketplace.

Worthy though these Russian subjects may be, they probably lack the wider interest needed to bring them to market.(y)

Very valuable arguments indeed, Valiant, but with the many Russian figure painters and the changed outlook on their history there might be a market for at least some of the best known military leaders of the White Army, I hope.

We lovers of offbeat subjects will never be spoiled, that's part of the fun!

Cheers,

Pierre
