Hi all!

Here is my finished White Models Carabinier sculpted by the great Stefano Borin.
It is painted with Humbrol Enamels, Vallejo/Andrea acrylics and Printers Ink.

I will take some more closeup photos aswell.

That is really really nice.
Great paintjob.
But i have some quistions. And it is not neetpicking.
The cuirasses of the carabinerie are more to the gold colour.
Also is his helmet. It is not to the bronce color as you painted, but more gold colour and very shine.
The plumeaux on the helmet is a great red color.

Maybe it is the picture that gives the wrong colours.

Hi Marc and thanks for the comments.

I am not at all an expert in the Napoleon era and uniforms, but according to the instructions of the figure it says that the "Officers" like this one, had Copper cuirasses and helmets, instead of brass. Probably they were more "shiny" in reality but I kind of like to add quite a bit of contrast to all my metal painting since it is a material that only reflects the surroundings.

I agree that the plumeaux looks a bit dark ( perhaps even more in the photo than in reality ) but that is a way I like to paint sometimes, and I didn't want it to take too much attention from the rest of the figure.

Hope I have answered your questions

Best Regards

Andreas.

Andreas i like it when somebody give's his personally touch to a figure.
What i mean with gold like is yellow copper ( i don't know the english word for it). Copper is a kind of red.
I have to say it again, a really nice paintjob. I wish i could do it.
I do a link in my posting so if you are interest in Napoleonic figure's this link is to a Carabinier.

This man has really do some great jobs to Napoleonics.

Looking forward to see more of your work Andreas.

Andres, very nice (y) . I only wish I could paint the whites half as good as you have. Very nice job on your metals as well. All in all, some really good work. I agree with Jaume. Please give us some larger, closer pics!

Again, good job,
Jim Patrick

Marc,
Carabinier officers wore red copper cuirasses, according to Rousselot. Andreas' figure is not only beautifully painted, but, IMHO, accurate.

Rousselot's plate (trooper's cuirass on the left side, officer's on the right):

Hi Andreas, good to see you here.

Nice work, the tunic, breeches and boots look particularly well done. Any problems with the large 'canvas' compared with 54s?

Daniel Ipperti's work has been featured in Figurines, if I recall.

Andreas, the Carabinier officer looks great.
The colors look good, and I like the contrast you've used.

Hi Einion!
Thanx, it's good to be here :)

Well this is my first 90 mm figure so I didn't know exactly what to expect, but the main differences from 54 mm for me I think was that there are ofcourse more details to paint, larger areas that need more "rendering" and that there was a bit harder to get an overall feeling of the painting like colour and shadow balances. But the details also get bigger in scale so that was an advantage. Although this figure contains quite a lot of detailed areas so for example the blue / silver striped fabric on the cuirass was painfull sometimes, especially when the silver smudges on the blue :)

I will take more photos tonight and post them.

The figure looks Amazing!!!
I'm not an expert in painting or Napoleon era subjects,
but this figure is sculpted and painted masterfully.
I also like the way you photograph the figure. Sort of
reminds me of Rembrandt's paintings... dark background
and strong highlights.

Where can I see your work in 54mm?

Taesung

Excellent work there Andrea. I also have this figure and your pictures will be a great reference for me.

Hi, and thanks so much for the comments!!

Here are some more closeup photos of the figure.

Taesung, I have photos of some of my 54mm figures in the Gallery section.

Best Regards

Hello Andreas,

outstanding work, the shading looks fine and the overal impression fits with the subject of the figure.
As I'm also painting in humbrols, could you give some details about your colour mixes and the painting/ blending technique used on larger surfaces?

Best regards

Mark

Hi Mark, and thank you for the comments!

Well I guess I use a quite straightforward method with humbrols. The colours I mostly use except for the basic colour ( red, blue, yellow etc ) are Flesh, Natural wood and Black, I often mix these in to make the colour not too bright in value. I also try to keep the first colour shade quite dark and not too saturated in order to give the highlights more brightness. I mix the colours with Humbrol thinner, but not too much, I like to paint with a medium "thick" paint, since too thin paint tends to give an uneven layer that doesn't cover enough.
I don't use washes or "drybrushing", I paint more like traditional canvas painting.

Best Regards!

Andreas.
