Hi all,
Not sure if I should post this here or in the newbie section. This is my latest project the infamous Claude Duval, 1/9th scale bust. I have been trying to be bold with my shadows and highlights but I think I may have overdone the highlight on the nose a little. I thought that because of the large hat he wears I might have to make him a little lighter than usual to compensate for the shadow cast by the hat. Any comments would be helpful. (next on the list is finding a better way to photograph these things)

Cheers, Andrew.

I think he is looking good and you are on the right track with the highlites. If you figure out how to photograph better let me know, I can't take pics very well either.

Hi Andrew,

I think you've made a great start and your flesh tones are excellent.

The highlight on the top of the bulb of the nose is spot on, but I think you need to consider how this will be balanced by the dark shadows underneath and around the sides of the bulb of the nose. I'd suggest a bit more shading under the nose and up the sides.

I'd also suggest you add a thin line of highlight along the top of the lower eye lids. This will make the eye "pop" a bit more.

Great start Andrew.

Thanks guys,
I've fixed up the nose, added a little more shading underneath and up the sides. It looks a little less rounded now. I knew it looked a little off just couldn't put my finger on what it was, thanks Tony.

Andrew.

Nice work on the adjustments and the pattern on his shirt (that is awesome). Watch out on his whites especially his tie, it is too extreme on the shadows right now. I am guessing that you are using acrylics? You need to really build up very thin layers of colors with acrylics to avoid creating a distinct line of color.

After a few weeks off from painting miniatures to do a canvas painting I got back to the Highwayman bust. Here are the latest pics, all comments and advice are welcome as always.
Cheers, Andrew.
