Hello

my neighbour had made some new wooden basis for some of my busts.

Two of them were made from maple with a special wood rottenness. The color are different brown colors.

What do you mean about this wood? I was really unsecure, if this kind of wood would role over the bust (I don´t know how to express it). I mean, that everybody see only the base and not the bust.

The first two are bit too much for my tastes (I agree that the wood grain is a bit too overwhelming), but the last one, the "plumtree" is quite nice. One thought about these bases, they would be VERY hard to mount any sort of plaque onto if you had intentions to do so!

Ulrich,

The first base is made of spalted maple. The figuring in the wood is from a fungus in the wood grain.

It can distract from the figure but.... in some cases I think it would enhance a figure as well. Possibly a german infantry wearing fall camo? Or some other such figure that the figure graining would compliment the figure or enhance it.

THe plum wood is definately a nice choice and makes for a very rich looking display.

If anything the profile is a little elaborate for my tastes for figure display but possibly a nice choice for a bust. I prefer something much more simple but much of the decision comes from finding something that goes with the figure and does not detract from it.

You can see a small sampling of the high quality hardwood bases that I sell under my name "Bases by Rich DiBenedetto" under the forum/news section. I have been painting miniatures for over 35 years so I know what works. If interested please feel free to email me at [email protected] with the word "Bases" in the subject line.
