Greetings everyone,

The first version of the planetFigure Hobby Shop database is online :)

http://www.planetfigure.com/hobby-shops/map.php

An online database with a collection of hobby shop locations would be extremely convenient for those on the go, visit out of state and country shows or have travel plans for a vacation abroad. A compendium of shops would make answering those questions much easier

To add a shop use the following form here and it will be added to the database:

http://www.planetfigure.com/shop-register.php

Note: This map is only for store front shops, future maps may in include battle field sites, book stores, places of interest.

Brilliant idea Gordy. Something I've always looked out for.

May I suggest to input some 'meta data' like type of shop (figure, model shop with some figures, etc.) and some measure of 'coolness'..?
This to avoid frantic searching in a strange city and then finding a tiny model shop with just a few outdated figure kits...(experience talking here).

Anyway, I'll be using it and contributing my finds.

Cheers,
Adrian

Thanks :)

I like the idea, of the extra data, it would require a lot more input, most of which is already difficult to gather and manage. So far I've invested 30 hours into 3 files and hundreds of lines of code, a database and a form for submission ;) Something I can consider for later versions, I now see why there aren't many around, they are a lot of work! :D

Wow, that IS a lot of work.
Maybe the easy way would be to have some sort of 'comment' box at every entry that everyone entering information can fill with additional info, or not. Sort of free format.
One thing that I think really adds value is a date (of entry, or some measure of validity). I've hunted for shops I found on the Internet that had closed for years (when I finally concluded the address was correct).

Anyway, please see this as some ideas borne out of enthusiasm. The whole idea, in whatever form, I warmly welcome!

Cheers,
Adrian

Nice points Adrian, since I now have a database, I could load the contents into the wiki for greater detail where members can make updates , store hours etc. Good plan and more secure from non-members, the internet is a malicious place ;)
