Thanks Roger,

I'm going to order a copy of that figure. Sorry about calling you Billy earlier.
Thats ok Paul, it's my fault for choosing a daft username. The story behind Billy Turnip is that my daughter, who was seven at the time, announced one night after school that they had been learning about the highwayman Billy Turnip. She in fact meant Dick Turpin
I'll try and get a close up of the face Roc but it may not be very good as I don't have a digi camera but I'll do my best.

Roger.

Roger - That's a great story about the nickname! One of the elder statesmen TV personalities on this side of the pond, Art Linkletter, had a show years ago where he got kids to answer questions, talk about school and their families and he somehow had a knack for getting them to say things like that.

BTW I think you did a marvelous job with the face and the rest so far! ;)

All the best,
Dan

Thanks Bob, knowing of your interest in The Great War I was hoping you'd see this.
Have you tried the Great War Forum ref. your query on Belgian carbine slings? I'm sure someone there will have the answer.

Roger.

Actually, it's Dan, but close enough. :)

No, but Thanos (fellow pFer) helped me out. It's a simple metal belt clip with a large square metal ring. The clip fits on the belt. The carbine drops into the metal ring. The ring is large enough to allow the carbine to slide through until it lodges at the widest part, which, I believe is just past the trigger guard.

The Belgian cavalry used two leather belts one on top of the other in an X pattern. The carbine could also be fitted on to a set of clips and held tight at the place where the belts cross in cavalryman's back. I'm kinda thinking the belt clip was also used as part of the X rig, but don't know how.

Both look pretty uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to wear 'em. If anybody needs to see the ring clip, I'll e-mail them a photo.

FYI - I DID ask the guys on the WWI Forum the other question about RND gaiters. Also the Imperial War Museum and the Royal Naval Museum photo and uniform curators. No luck. That's the bad news. But the good news is that Jon Smith (Jon Smith Modellbau) says he has a picture of them and will be scanning and e-mailing me this weekend.

All the best,
Dan

Cheers Gary, I'm really enjoying painting this figure. The next one I paint I'll leave the head off. I found it very difficult painting it attached to the body of the figure.
Anyway I've got some more done.
