Here is an in-progress picture of a 54mm WW2 German, somewhere in Russia during the winter of 42-43. I still need to paint the flesh, MP-40 strap around his neck (then I'll add the weapon) and his boots. He is painted in oils over an acrylic undercoat. I am going to experiment with the fleshtones, using purples, blues, and grays for a 'cold' look. Practicing my weathering technique on the white smock was one of the reasons I chose to paint this kit. Constructive criticism welcome.

Kreston,

Looks outstanding so far. The weathering on smock is excellent. What mixes did you use for the white, or do we have to wait for the book?

Are you bored? WWII German, you must have painted every WWI figure that's on the market! Well you will have your work cut out for you, the WWII german figure market is a bit larger. LOL Mrosko
P.S> I would like to see a hi-rez image of your figure. Looks great

Wow! Woweewow wow wow!!! Dude, looks really good - the best German figure I've seen in a very long time  What kind of primer did you use? I imagine that silver would work great so you wouldn't have to worry about the metallics (just paint everything else around them).

By the way, what's your mix for gray?

Looks great so far Kreston. When you do the flesh be sure to post some facial closeups. I look forward to seeing your experiment. At MasterCon I saw Pietro Balloni using the type of pallette you describe. It was very lifelike.

Looking good, Mud Pie Guy!

Certainly would like to see some close-ups one you finish the face.

Thanks for the comments. My digital camera is an old one so I apologize for the crummy pics!

The white is just Titanium White dulled down with burnt umber. Burnt umber for the shadows and pure white for the high highlights.

I did the face this afternoon and am quite pleased with the results. It was odd looking at the colors on my palette as there wasn't any mix that looked like my usual flesh mix. I still have to ga back and add the deep shadows between the fingers and add some fingernail detail. After I do that, and some of the gloss burns off, I will take some closeup shots and post them.

My plan is to have this figure as part of a 'wedgie'. It's my first attempt at one and I'm looking forward to it!

Excellent job so far Kreston. Looking forward to the finished product.

Excellent use of weathering on the smock and great mud work to tone him into whatever groundwork you decide to put him in.

Very very nice (y)
