Dan Morton
A Fixture
I plan to do a figure based on a WWI sailor bugler in the black uniform with white swabbie hat, canvas web belt, canteen, first aid kit, etc., putties and boots. I have some reference photos now, but I'm still looking for better ones. This would be a recreation of a famous NY Times period photo taken in France. You may have seen it - it's a side view of the bugler blowing reveille or something.
What I really need are clear photos of a sailor front, back, and both sides, preferably wearing a web belt. I tried cleaning up the jpg I have of the "famous photo" with PhotoShop, but it didn't improve it much. Maybe I'm obsessing, but I want to show the tunic or blouse gathered at the waist and below it by the belt and need some idea how it would lay and look. What do you "much-better-sculptors-than-I" do in such situations? If I can't get photos, I may have to resort to using my wife as a model...I'm sure she'll be thrilled!
All the best,
Dan
