I have been trying without success to paint the jacket of an American Paratrooper, the colour does not seem right. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is the correct colour. Thank you.

paratroopers of the u.s army in ww2 wore two distinct uniforms for the normandy campaign they were issued with the 1942 jump uniform

us_uni_ParaM42_jkt_rein_main2_small.jpg
which was a shade known as od 3 which has a khaki appearance.

Following this they were issued a modified version of the 1943 combat uniform
us_uni_M43Para_Set.jpg
which as you can see is in shade od 7 which was green in appearance.

Although both uniforms shades varied from batch to batch and manufacturer so i would base the colour on the examples above then work from there what uniform is your figure wearing

Montythefirst hit it on the head. Take note first of the uniform cut on your figure and then consider what period he is to represent. ie., North Africa, Sicily, Southern France, and Normandy, then he would be wearing the M42 jump jacket and pants. Operation Market Garden and forward, he would have been issued the M43 uniform. Hope this helps.
