Hello there,

I'm a newbie in the world of figures having painted only two so far (big 1:10 bust, posted here and here) and I'm looking for some information. I've searched in the forum and have found many different post listing endless list of companies all around the world, but for someone that is starting it can be a bit overwhelming.

So I was wondering if OK, to ask for recommendations.

If you get to list your top 3 favourite companies, currently producing the best 1:9-1:12 bust figures, which ones will you choose? Will be great also, if you can write one or two lines of each explaining why you've picked them. (resin and cast quality, amount of detail, ease of assembly, specific theme and subjects etc)

I personally know only Life Miniature and Young Miniatures both from South Korea, and 2dreamers from the Czech Republic, all of which has fantastic detail and good quality (but don't know any other companies to compare them to)

I'll appreciate your help and looking forward to your opinion!

cheers
Jorge

hello Jorge,

It might be useful if you give some idea of the period/s you are interested in and whether you prefer to work with Resin/White Metal etc.

Keith

Yes, Sure!

I have never worked with white metal, only resin so I don't know the main difference in terms of quality/detail or preparation before painting. Lets just say I prefer resin which is what I know so far.

In terms of era, coming from the scale modelling world I do like WWI and WW2, but I like pretty much any periods.

I guess I wanted to keep it broad and less specific.

I second Mitches Military Models, something for everyone, and as Nap says, good value, and good and quick service.

Broken Toad do some very good busts, if you fancy something other than 'modern' soldiers.
Big Child also do very good busts, buy direct from them, or via El Greco in the U.K.. Again not traditional modern soldiers, but the quality is good.
I very much like the sculpting of Charles Agius, his work is cast and so.d by a number of companies.

That's just a few. I've been finding g new 'favourites' just by looking around here.....

Mitches military for sure, they have two of the best sculptors of all time on their books in Carl REID and Moz CORRY. they produce figures and busts from most periods, quality and service is first rate..
Alpine miniatures, produce excellent 120mm and 54mm figures from ww 2, and their quality are also first rate.
Jeff Shiu again ww 2 German in 120mm and if your keen 1/9 scale..
Victory miniatures keep some decent figures from differing era's 120mm
Bonaparte's as well...

The list is long but, as Ive always said, " Buy them ( figure kits ) as soon as they come out, or they will disappear fast.. The production runs, are not large and most of these companies are small cottage industries so most figures are limited editions..

Regards

Smithy
