Sheriff Richard Pielin, Santa Fe, New Mexico Terr., 1880 - Series 77 90mm Metal

When Pat Bird, of Series 77 miniatures, released this figure back in the 70's he named him after his friend Dick Pielin. Dick is a long time MMSI member, was editor of the Scabbard publication and is currently Editor Emeritus and Membership Chair for the MMSI. It was a tribute to Dick back then and one I will continue to honor with my painted version.

I painted the Sheriff as a tough, no holds barred, lawman of the 1880's. He spends most of his time outdoors and the weather, sun and job has taken it's toll. Heavily sun burnt and grizzled, he still loves what he does and would choose no other life.

The figure was not modified in any way and painted entirely with acrylics. The fence was included in the kit and I added the groundwork using epoxy putty and static grass and tufts.

A great kit by any standards and a joy to paint.

Thanks for looking,
Ken

Agree with Mike

I like your painting on this , the leather effects in particular and the jeans he wears ....nice simple but effective groundwork as well

It's lovely to see your painting of the older figures

Why not put a piece into FOTM as well ..it's for everybody

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Great work, Ken, great to see these figures...Series 77 were always popular "back in the day". I wondered where I'd seen that waistcoat before.....I have one just like it which I wear as we write!:ROFLMAO:

Great job, love it.

Some Series 77 figures were let down by short legs, but some were great and this is one of the better ones that still stands up today.

Ken, Excellent job on Dick Pielin! You know Pat Bird named his figures after hobby painters. Dick Pielin is/was a member of the Chicago Club. Hve not talked with Dick in years. Great guy to by the way. This is one of my favorites from The Americans Series! You did an excellent job on the Sheriff!!! The flesh tones, vest, pants, shirt, hat, gun belt. Super job Ken! What I wouldn't give to have another casting of this kit to paint! I painted one of these when it came out back in the 1980's. The idea for the figure came from a western, Border Chantry, written by Louis L'Amour. I am a big fan of the American West and love westerns. Think this is definitely one of Pat Bird's finest releases! And you did an excellent job painting the figure from the top of his stetson to the boots.(y) Excellent work! Would love to see your work on the tables at the Atlanta Show in February my friend!
