Hi everyone

Just got the above from Mitches ( very fast service ) I want to paint this as accurately as possibly so ....

Think I have seen something somewhere ...but just can't find it atm...there's a total of 16 !

Can anyone confirm the ribbons that " Viper " wears played by Tom Skerrett as in this picture....some are Vietnam era

Cheers for any help

OK...as near as I can figure
Bottom row, L to R RVN Service medal, RVN Campaign Medal...?
Next row up ?...?...RVN Cross of Gallantry.
Next row up...?...?..RVN something.
Next row up... Navy Medals...no idea.
Top row...Meritorious Service Medal.
Sooy I cant be of much help but am an Army guy.

I enjoyed figuring out the ribbons for Lord Flasheart, back in the day.
This one was just as much fun, but unsuccessful on three ribbons, and uncertain on one or two.
This is what I figured out:-

Line 1. Meritorious Service Medal

Line 2. ???????? - Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal - Navy and Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation.

Line 3. Navy Unit Commendation - Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation - National Defense Service Medal.

Line 4. Antarctica Service Medal - Navy Arctic Service Ribbon - Vietnam Service Medal (with silver star, denoting service in 5 campaigns).

Line 5. Sea Service Deployment Ribbon - Not sure of the middle ribbon, but looks like a Distinguished Service Medal (Army)? - ????????

Line 6. ???????? - Middle Ribbon looks like a Coast Guard Commendation Medal, but the central bar is too thick .. not sure of the device - Navy Good Conduct Medal.

Good luck figuring out the unknowns and uncertainties.

Cheers,
Andrew

Just come across this one, which matches Line 6, middle ribbon:-
RVN Campaign Medal with 1960- device
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Campaign_Medal

And Line 6, ribbon 1:-
RVN Presidential Unit Citation
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Presidential_Unit_Citation

Line 3, ribbon 1:-
Navy Unit Commendation
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_Unit_Commendation

Line 5, ribbon 3:-
RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with palm and frame (US Army version)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallantry_Cross_(South_Vietnam)

Correction on Line 5, ribbon 2:-
Multinational Force and Observers Medal
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multinational_Force_and_Observers_Medal

Line 2, ribbon 1:-
Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commendation_Medal

I think that covers the outstanding items.

Cheers,
Andrew

This is Val Klimers badge from the actual film ( details from a prop company )

Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky's (Val Kilmer) name badge from Tony Scott's action film Top Gun. Iceman wore his badge as part of his white dress uniform and in the film's classroom scenes.

Made of plastic, the front plate has Kazansky's name engraved with the text 'Topgun 1' below, and an applique featuring the emblem of the Fighter Weapons School on the left-hand side. Two pins are fitted on the rear to attach the badge to the costume. Given a brushed faux-gold finish, the badge displays some wear, including light scuffs and scratches on the paint. Dimensions: 1 cm x 7.5 cm x 2.5 cm ( 1/4" x 3" x 1")
