My first serious scratch building attempt. The basis was the MMM samurai by Otto, the helmet was an alternative option from the SK Takeda Shingen bust by Ramon Rux.

My contribution was to extend the Jnbaori at the back and add arms and a sword. I made some antler kuwagata and the kabuto badge on the helmet using magic sculpt.
I struggled a bit with the mail sleeves as you can probably see but I am reasonably happy with how they turned out. I added the bottom plates to the shoulder guards with green stuff and modified the bottom of the throat guard so it covered the armpit guards which were altered to go under the jinbaori, they just hang in mid-air as supplied.

Painted with a combination of oils acrylics and enamels.

Nice scratch build and conversion.
Looks like the arms and katana are converted from Ron Hinote's Little General Samurai warrior figure.

I haven't seen the figure you refer to. Do you have an image?
I made up the arm armour with putty and sheet lead using various images in my samurai books. The katana was cut from a sheet of aluminium.

Catching up with things here

Nice conversion work , you certainly didn't choos a easy subject , like the painting on the lacing and the clothing

Out of interest how did you approach the lace .....individually or en masse and then tidy around ?

Why not enter a piece into the class of your choice in our FOTM comp and also vote in previous months classes as well as voting in Vignette & Diorama comp #2

Hi Kev,

The lace was undercoated in acrylic then given a wash with citadel nuln oil in the recesses. I then picked out the detail with
W & N permanent green and paynes grey. So a combination of both really.

Very nice, good conversion and lovely painting. It urges me to get on with my own conversion project of Verlinden's "Arnhem" paras...:confused: so many projects, so little time..:)

It's very satisfying to have a unique piece and a bit of putty work makes a nice break from painting.

So get that project on the go. :)
