Hello folks,
This is one of my latest work in progress figure that represents a Drummer of the Soissonois Regiment.
I am in the process of trying other acrylics like the Vallejo Game color range,i founfd them to be a little bit more "diluted" than the Model color.
For the Coat base i am trying the Vallejo Night Blue (blue/black) which gives a great midtone for the Drummer's coat in Royal Blue.
As for the Crimson,i decided to try a slight variation from the las two figures using a mix of Vallejo Game color Scarlett red,Andrea Crimson,Andrea Basic red and a dab of Windsor & Newton Alizarin Crimson to make a little brighter.
I have been asembling and priming some of the figures ( sometimes i get impatient) but i will finish this drummer and the officer of the Saintonge.
cheers

Off to a good start as usual.
How about a SBS on the skintones as you paint it. Your African skintones are always fantastic.
Look forward to further progress.

Thanks for passing by Colin :).
This is my second figure i am trying african skin fleshtones , i think i will probably try a different mix than the last one but not sure on the colors yet.
Best regards

Hey Daniel, nice start . What are your color mixes African fleshtones ?

Chris , thanks for passing by.
the african fleshtones i've used for the previous drummer you could find it on the Gatinais drummer,i really can't remeber since i've change the base color 4 times and it was my first try at painting african fleshtone lol.
But a good reference is as follow:
Base , use vallejo chocolate brown with a hint of black (very little)
for lights try base plus english uniform and for the very last lights add a little bit of Vallejo panzer aces Base flesh.
for shadows i will use vallejo german camo black/brown.
hope this help and forgive me if that does not work but i am in the process of trying this fleshtones myself.
Cheers

Ok cool ! I paint in oils the mix i use is Base Burnt umber with a little Burnt Sienna. For shadow, Raw Umber and some Mars Black. For Highlights alittle Mars Orange or and Naples Yellow. Now have to be careful with the Naples because it may turn the colors pasty.
So come on over to the other side........Oils!

Never! lol, i love acrylics :D
thanks for your mixes,i had a feeling you used oils.
Best regards

I hear ya Daniel... I must admit though, I went out and bought a set of oils this week... mostly to try on horses.
I have a feeling I won't be packing up my Vallajos anytime soon.

Colin

My first fiugre painting was in oils, bought 3 figures from Le cimier 180mm and used Testors (oil)
I was very happy but then i tried acrylics and went on the Vallejo's website where they have a step by step on how to paint with acrylics,so i got hooked on them.
I only use oils for the metal parts since in my humble opinion, the acrylics have a deficiency in that area, better oils for that.
regards
