Hi Guys

As I can see light at the end of the tunnel on my Roger's Ranger bust also from RP , thought I would start a SBS on this one

I reviewed this piece in its original form here .....

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/lt-cairns-vc-from-rp-models.80665/

I will be doing the version with the full arm or rather the nearly severed arm .

Just my references at the moment ..reworking a "few" things including.....

Epaulettes

Changed webbing features including the positions of the front pouches , also waterbottle and haversack .

Buttons

The ID tags will be flying around with the movement of the piece

Detailed pistol

Opened up the holster flap

Making a stronger sword ...to allow for my potential bananna fingers !

.....And also add a handle cord to the sword

Got to make a pistol lanyard as I dropped mine ......to feed the carpet monster !

I will be adding Chindit patches as a tribute to these brave men and a force Lt Cairns was part of .

Resin pics will follow once things have hardened and I am hapoy !

Lt Cairns' VC is in the Staffs Regt Museum, Whittington, nr Lichfield. Although Cairns was in the Somerset L I, he was attached to 1st Batt S. Staffs which had been glidered into the area the day before, along with other members of the 77th Indian Infantry Div.

Look forward to seeing your progress, Kev(y)

Hi Guys

Cheers Steve ...sounds a good area to visit

Bob.........will be taking pics in Friday so hopefully it will show what I have done before it gets primed!

Stop Press ..made the new sword blade really happy with that!

Tenuous link and shameless plug for The Staffordshire Regiment Museum.......Cairns' VC is on display there. As are several other Regimental VCs. I've had a look at the Cairns file in the archives, unfortunately there's little else there of help for fellow modellers. Nonetheless, a great little museum and well worth a visit Open 7 days a week. If anyone drops in this Easter Monday, it's one of the special event days. Lots of the weapons collection available for up close inspection, various re-enactors and extra military vehicles on display. If any PFers drop by, please say hello.

Cheers Guys

Update .....all rework will be finished after I change the handle on the machete ..just the retaining strap to do , drill a hole in top and put a wrist "cord" through .

New sword blade shaped up and sanded into shape ...better in my opinion !

I have drilled and pinned the new sword blade as well will be fitted last after painting !

Reasoning for me doing this ..well that's me there is nothing wrong with the kit in the box

...except I wanted to:

Add the Chindit badges ..add a tiny flash of colour and a challenge to paint !

Redefined the rank slides and the buttons

Have the dog tags show more movement

Added a wrist strap on the sword handle ..movement again

Detailed up the watch strap and might add watch hands !! ( I will use a lens fluid for the glass later. )

Opened up the holster ..little more movement

Detailed up the webbing straps/buckles etc ..will add more details when painting

For the wound will be going for the look as in main reference picture of the VC action

Pictures on Friday ..visiting Jimbo on Thursday for a paint day ......and biccie raid !!

Looking at it now it doesn't look much but all very fiddly and time consuming..getting the look right and also waiting for putty and fighting the many bits from the carpet monster..lol

Brian

Cheers mate ..the challenge will be the blood on the sleeve ..not using the severed arm version .........SWMBO objected having a reference in the fridge next to the yoghurt !!..LOL

Looking forward to painting this after the next which will be a more colourful piece but will base coat this anyway !

Next interresting project. It has great potential, so quite looking forward.

Cheers Borek

Cheers Borek

Just finished off the machete etc and also put 3 bullets in the pistol ...one of the chambers are empty ...the result of him firing it before he was wounded in the arm and it dropped .

Might be able to take a picture before going to Jimbo's if not on Friday

Thanks for looking in

Cheers mate ..yes there will be a la ketchup ...got to think the best way without going too over the top !

Thanks for looking in

Nap

The question is realism or suggestion.
Personally I prefer suggesting that there is a trauma.
I guess realism is a few trips to the Golden Arches for a dozen sachets of la ketchup.
There is no harm in it:(.....sorry couldn't resist it.
