The Nenets are a people inhabiting the far north of Russia.
Deer for Nenets is not just skin, wool and meat. The deer is his whole life. For Nenets, this is a brother and a friend, a breadwinner and a means of existence. The status and wealth of the Nenets is measured in deer. A person whose deer breed well is respected by everyone. His family and loved ones are not poor and live in prosperity (in the correct sense of the word).
The reindeer is as short as all the inhabitants of the tundra. Like the Nenets themselves and the nature around him. Deer and Nenets live at each other's expense. The Nenets feeds and waters the deer, takes care of it and loves it, and the deer, in turn, gives clothes, food and a roof over his head. These are two inseparable brothers born in the harsh northern region - the Tundra.
The work was done slowly in one month. The idea matured after getting acquainted with the works of Yakut masters of bone cutters.
This is my first attempt to make something out of clay and paint. The work was done in 2013.
Scale 1:25.
The frame is copper wire and foil.
The material is Super Sculpey Firm.
Painting with acrylic and oil paints.
with respect
Denis.
