Hi Borek, me again :)

Downloaded a chapter on the 30 from this book here (luckily I can access via my university accreditation): see attached pdf.

This gives a lot of interesting info on the Breton 30 as well as biogs and where known, blazons, including for some missing from your sources (though Simon Richard remains un-tinctured plus a discrepancy for de La Roche).

So, these should help fill in the colours/tinctures for some of the arms your source here gives (PS: don't know how I missed your link in my earlier postings!).

The English/Bretons/Germans, other than those you have and Gaillard above seem to obscure to be able to trace with any confidence (though lots of the family names appear in various guises in armorial rolls simple links cannot be assumed)

Hope this all helps with your monumental challenge.

BTW: it's difficult to simply link a family name with a particular armorial bearing (and vice versa) but I found this site has great links to various sources and the Bodlian's Powell's Roll has contemporary English arms.

BUT: I did find Nicholas Edgeworth (as dagworth), complete with his golden bezants (but rather muddy field):

Hi Borek,

Yes, if the blazon is correct (Ermine on a Fess Gules three Bezants) then in English heraldry they have to be gold as 'bezant' refers to the Byzantine gold coins (French heraldry uses it for both gold and silver).

If fact there was a whole set of terms for roundels (disks) of various colours. In English heraldry an argent (white/silver) one would be a 'plate'.

See here and here (see the online Fox-Davies and Boutell's guides: I still have my 50-year old copy of Boutell on my shelves).

Here's a few more free online refs

Hi Neil

A MASSIVE thank you for your work on this research, thats amazing!!! I do not have such options, neither time, nor language nor "access", so I am very grateful for your help. They are very interesting and essential resources. While working on the project, I will also try to read everything that is needed- especially PDF looks very interesting. Thank you very much again for your efforts and support. I will definitely be pleased if you notify me of any errors in the development of the project. Certainly it will be essential information for painting of this diorama. I'm definitely not going to do that, I'm not a good painter, but it's possible that it will be painted, so any advice and info will be welcome. Thank you very much for the third time and stay tuned :)

Cheers Borek
