About two months ago I have began to paint an historical piece: the Red Lancier of Poste Militaire.
The work of painting is finished but in these two months I have made a lot of photos of the wip.... I ask to me if you have the pleasure to see the wip or the finished work of this mythical sculptur of Ray Lamb.

WIP progess pictures are always very helpful also if any text to aide along, articles (WIP + text) are always extremely useful :)
 
I too, would love to see any WIP pictures you have as well as the finished figure. I painted this beautiful figure years ago and always enjoy seeing how others go about it and what their version looks like too.
 
Don't worry about the translation Enzo. My Italian is much worse than your English....lol. Plus the pictures speak a 1000 words each anyway. I got my issue of Soldatini today in the mail and my Italian is improving.....so very slowly.
 
..a short history of Red Lancer..

This regiment was created on September 13 th 1810; it was composed from Hussars of the Holland Guard, elements of troops of King Louis beside those French.
On January 10 th 1813 the regiment was strong of eight squadrons every of 250 men, on following February 23, the squadron of the Dragons of the Town Guard of Paris was integrated in to it, bringing the strengths 2500 men left again in 10 squadrons.
The squadrons 1, 2, 3 and 4, composed by Holland made the Mojenne Garde, the other, composed by French belonged to the Jeune Garde.
During the 100 days them were reorganized in the Old Gard under the name of Riders Light Lancers of the Imperial Gard including into it the Polish Lancers squadron.
The Red lancers of French origin were generally native of the Alsazia and of the Lorena, they was in rivalry in cleverness with their Polish allies.
They distinguished during the Country of Russia and they made big damages to the famous English Gard on the field of the Battle of Waterloo.

The technique of painting that I have used is mixed acrylic-oil.

I enclose two plates of Rousselot that were very important for the dress colours.

....in the image n.1 there are the whole pieces of the box completely clean.... in this moment I was happy as a child that finds a new toy.

the image n.2 is the wood base that I have chosen for a so beautiful piece.... in Italy only a man produces so beautiful wood bases.

in the images n. 3,4 and 5 I begin the work to the horse.... I begin to fill the line of conjunction between head and body.... and, thing very more difficulty, after to have covered with primer, I have attached the harness.... it was very, very, very, VERY difficult!!!!

Contemporarily (image n.6) I glued the two parts of the saddle and I covered the saddle of primer.......

I'm really glad you decided to do the SBS, I'm getting ready to do my first mounted figure and this is going to help a lot. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
 
... the base of the saddle has been given to acrylic. Not being an officer it's impossible to use the gold but is necessary to use only the yellow. The yellow has been created with the Andreas's yellow attenuated (too much polish) with a little of Vallejo's goldbrown. The shades of the edge of the saddle and the eagles have been made with a washing to oil of earth of Cassel.
The Blue imperial has been realized with the dark prusia blue of the vallejo with a little of black.
the saddle is, in this photo, without lights and shades.

....in the photo n.1 I have begun to paint the harness of the head and the stomacher.
I wanted to paint a dark bay horse.
in the photos n.2 and 3 have I painted the mantle of the horse. Before I have lent a hand of sombra tostada (burnt umber) of the Vallejo + a little of red + a little of ochre of the Andrea. After I have painted the shades with black to oil and I have painted the lights to oil with earth of Siena natural dark .
In the photo n.4 (are not present the eyes) I have glued the saddle to the horse and I have painted the small red triangles of the harness.
in the photo n.5 it is possible to see the mantle still wet from the painting to oil.
in the photos n.6 and 7 I have painted the buckles (gold) of the harness.
To this point I have had to glue the horse at the base of wood because I could not handle it anymore (too much heavy and I could ruin the painting).
in the photos 8,9,10,11,12,13 are painted the white streaks on the fetlocks and the clogs of the horse. I have painted the whie streaks on fresh oil with some white that is naturally dirtied with the below color.
in the photos 14 and 15 the horse is almost finished....
