Hola, PF amigos,

I've just started my new painting project. Almost over 3 months away from painting I feel like I've lost my feel, I feel like almost a beginner now. So, this time I just want to focus on painting, I decided to picked up a very very simple kit, old 1970's vintage AIRFIX kit.

Flags, belts, reins are made by cutting thin-rolled CEMEDINE epoxy putty for plastic, and then primed with Tamiya surfacer.

Any comments are welcome. anyone who is old AIRFIX fans, who made this figure before, who knows a tips about building Bengal lancers, who knows a lot about painting horses or yellow draping, please post your comment or info.
 
CEMEDINE is one of the biggest cement and putty company in Japan, almost all Japanese knows its name. Its famous for cement for home DIY, but they produce great putties for several use, such as for plastic, woods, metal, waterproof etc. Cemedine putty is very very popular among Japanese modelers and scrach-builders.

the type I used here is "Cemedine's epoxy putty for plastic", something like this:

This putty is very erastic, pretty much similar to DURO, a little bit stiffer but stretches better than DURO. It is hard to get Duro here in Japan (especially when you live far away from big cities such as Tokyo, Osaka), so modelers who cannot get Duro use Cemedine putties for the replacement of Duro. You can get this putty at anywhere in Japan, even very very local DIY shop.

They got english page, but bad news is that they seem they don't sell epoxy putty lineups in US.

Imagine that the cemedine putty is "Stiffer and a little bit more elastic version of DURO".:)
 
Thanks Dimitrios, I will do my best on this fig. Now I'm struggling with painting yellow on Bengal Lancer Uniform.:)

BTW, I love your works and subscribing RSS of your Art in scale website!

The tone of the face is the wonderful finish already.
I'd like to follow with a big expectation.

I have this Bengal Lancer figure, from EBay it was purchased recently. Over
the years Airfix have re-poped a number of those 54mm Historical Equestrian
kits, but rarely does the Bengal Lancer kit make it into hobby stores, or on
line hobby companies.

I will watch your progress carefully, and hope you're able to post SBS photos
from time to time on this figure. You are off to such a beautiful start. The
face and head look just super.

I'm working on a Airfix Historex conversion of a ECW Roundhead Cavalryman
who also is holding a pennant, or flag. But I decided not to attach the rider on
the horse or the flag pole into his right hand until the last. I feared I would
break off something from having to hold the figure while painting it.

Obviously, you know something I do not know. I rarely do Equestrian
figures as to me, they are so difficult in small scale. Would you be willing
to talk more about that?

I got it recently from eBay too.:) Yes it's too bad its hard to find it in online stores.

That's good to know. I havent attach the rider, flag pole yet too, for the same reason.

Yes of course I'm glad to talk about this. But, to tell the truth, This is my first mounted figure.:) I never finished mounted figure before so This is a little bit challenge for me and I'm excited to painting horse.
 
I've made the 1/12 scale version, and it looks striking in that yellow! For painting the yellow I used Humbrol 'Lufthansa' yellow as the base mixed with 'deep yellow' oil paint as illustrations show that it's a golden yellow rather a pale colour. Highlighted with yellow/white mix and shadowed with burnt umber added to the original mix.

and thanks a lot for the info about painting yellow, Dave. Yellow is one of the difficult color to paint for me so your tips help.

I don't have Humbrol paint so I will mix a closer color by Vallejo. again, I really appreciate your hints.

ah the famous Bengal Lancer.
I worked in a model shop on Saturdays in my youth and the guy I worked with bought 17 of these kits when they were to be discontinued. I wish I had the foresight.

Grant, that's a good story. I see the guy was really hooked by something of this kit and I really can understand his feeling. I didn't know that this is really great kit until I started building it.
