Hi Guys I know I have a couple of item on my bench at the minute but I couldnt resist doing this in between...this is my first bust in over 12 years and only my third bust to date.

Im loving painting it and its really giving the eyes a rest from all my 35th stuff at the minute.

The face is in oils and the helmet is Tamiya acrylics using the hairspray method of chipping white wash paint.

Comments and critique most welcome ;) lllllll.jpg

helmet looks like real face too maybe that highlight on the face is a little too white but wait what will others say about that after all I have been painting figures for 5-6 months so I am still a novice so dont take my comments too seriously but helment is fantastic good work face from profile it looks like a real person

Hi Carl!

Great start, and great looking helmet.(y)
Wich oil color you used to paint white? I cant reproduce such light in the flesh.

Hi Carl I wish they were ! :ROFLMAO:

I remembered I had a set in a warriors bust by Hudson and Alen, but that's it now and I have another half a dozen busts that need them.o_O

Really need to track a source for 1/9th scale helmet decals,to date it's a no go:( thx for the comments.

Pava thankyou for your comments (y) I tend to
Paint high contrast anyway, but also used the flash that hasn't helped atall,I'm not to clever with cameras... It doesn't look to bad in the flesh to be honest but understand what you mean,I will take another look.

Gordy and Pedro many thanks for you comments ! :)

Pedro the white is Windsor and Newtons Titanium White from there Artist range so
Has a little more pigment in.

The helmet is fantastic ... looks real !

However, I'm afraid that the decals are not historically correct. They were not applied after 1942 (If I rembember well). So during the battle of the Bulge there were no decals on german helmets.

Love it Carl, wonderful helmet detail and superb face, a very good start indeed.

Look forward to further updates.

On a side note, I have never done the hairspray method before can you explain how it is done?

Thanks
Dave

Sculpt-wise this hardly register as top 20 from the top-notched Mr Young, but this looks stunning thanks to your fabulous skills, Carl!

It would be magical to see your rendering of the truly great ones from the same manufacturer.

Terry,Deneau and Laurent many thanks for the feadback ! appreciate it :)

Regards the helmet, you are right that they were removed after this date but I have seen many images with them still on after this date... wether the older veterens were not keen or whatever reason some did still remain, and as I prefer to see them on I chose that option ...they add some interest also. But I like to think he is a veteren,he kinda has that gritty look to him ?!

Thanks again for your input (y)

Carl
