Hello folks , here's the latest on my workbench.
I am still completing my Soissonois fusiliers and decided to work on two genadiers ( multitasking ;) ) for the addtion to the already existing grenadiers on the diorama .
The bearfur hat is from Historex , added volume and more realistic "fur" using greenstuff .
The heads are from JMD and added mustaches using greenstuff .
Best regards

Looking good as always. I really like what you've done with the bearskin and the side curls and pigtails. What technique do you use to texture the fur and hair... looks very good!

Hello Colin, this is a step by step with pictures as i promise earlier.
On the first pic you'll see the tools i use.
For fine details like hair, fur, lace, cords and other small items i use Greenstuff (Kneadatite) .
My mix is 50/50 ,let it rest for 30 minutes before start working and shaping.
1- once i mix the greenstuff and let it sit for 30 minutes i tear a little piece and make it into a ball, put it onto the figure head about have the lenght of the ear , then i use the black tool you see on the pic and "spread" it to the upper side of the head, just a light preassure ( make sure you wet the edge of the tool, saliva works hehe :D).
2- then i shapened the curl, and make the desire lenght of it.
3- once i have the "cylinder" shape curl i pich it trough with the nail tool, not too deep, front and rear end of the curl.
4- use the Exacto knife and "draw the lines of the hear from top to bottom with very little pressure and make sure the knife is moistened .
5- use the nail tool and "draw" the hear , same procedure on the bearfur hats.
6-As for the ponytail , i make a little ball of greenstuff , put a dot of glue on the back of the head and stick the ball to it, then i use the Exacto knife and pressed almost all the way to the glued point, make a double press line so it looks like a hair tie ,it will be devide in 2 little balls, then pinch it at either end with the nail tool, finally draw the hair line with the exacto.
I hope what i have wrote here is understandable , tried to be simple but there is always a language barrier .

Best regards

I meant after this diorama is done... are you going to do something of a different subject or era?
That is a good question , i would like to work on figures related to the War of independence of the Americas, more specifically Argentina and their uniforms .
I already have a "patricio" trooper from 1807 in 75mm that is sitting on my desk ,but i am really busy with this diorama.
Perhaps i will also try to sculpt one of this figures in their uniforms from scratch or using a mannequin.
And you?

Still trying to finish the Chasseur, have some 75mm Crimean war figs, a couple of Nappies (54mm), a75mm ECW Cavalier, some Franco-Prussian figs and a few other odds and ends. My tastes are all over the map within the "horse and musket era" I also have a few boxes of 1/35 WW II figs I might take a shot at. I even have a Roman vignette I started a while ago that needs to be finished.
Once I finish the Chasseur and before I start anything new, I'd like to take a shot at scratch building... I have a scene from the Battle of Borodino in my head I want to see if I can make that work.

No rest for the wicked:sneaky:

Colin
