Dear planeteers!

Today would show to You the work of a good friend, Dirk Ewert, which serves at the same time also a good purpose:

Dirk writes in addition:

Hello together,

I would introduce to you this sailor in it's final painted version and briefly tell his history of the origin.

I had the last year shortly before the "Duke of Bavaria"-Show at Kulmbach the idea, to give a figure out, also for my next „round birthday“ (50.).

Benedikt Widmann was helpful, as usual and able of enthusiasm and put the contact with Sasha Lunyakov, who engraved it after I had decided on a motive.

The idea for this motive is from a painting by Winslow Homer, an American painter, with the title „All's well “, leant.

It shows a sailor, in spite of stormy sea, like a night watchman, who his ship comrades calls out the time with the help of the in the background hanging, bell.

I found it symbolic-laden enough for my purpose.

The painting style of W. Homer (1834-1910) meets me, in my kind to paint, very much, also his motives which, from his time as a correspondent with Harpers Weekly during the American civil war have become popular or show, however, maritime occurrences.

After to us then last year some cancer-conditioned bereavements surprised, I decided the proceeds from the sales of the figure, those among myself who face of this awful illness to most helpless ones to let come to good to the children.

Spontaneously Benedikt, Andreas and Sasha joined this idea, so that we can hopefully hand the next year in Kulmbach, the "German Kinderkrebshilfe" with your help, an adequate cheque.

I wish You much fun while looking at this figure!

I join Dirks statements with pleasure!

The "Deutsche Kinderkrebshilfe" ("German Childhood Cancer Help") is a charitable association which supports ill children in the most varied manner.

This figure is available at Benedikt Widmann, "Jupiter Miniatura":

Thanks for this news Martin.
Although I can't see the pics (I can only see images uploaded directly to PF at sea) I already know the combination of Dirk, Jupiter Miniatures and the subject make this of interest to me... and of course a good cause.

I was lucky enough to get myself one of the first castings, a great subject with some amazing detailwork . Superb painting by Dirk he certainly has a very unique style . (y)
Good luck mate with this project and lets hope it raises pots of cash for your charity.

Thanks for posting pics of the bare casting Ken, not that it makes much difference to me I've already been in touch with Dirk. :D

By the way I haven't forgotten about your Falklands figs. I'll be shopping via your site this coming week. (y)

From me, too, thanks for the shot of the raw flat. I was fascinated by the backdrop, and wanted to see whether Dirk used a piece of canvas for the texture. Excellent piece, and an excellent cause, too. Thanks for posting the thread, Martin!

Prost!

Looks like you will be doing A flat bustarama Roger ,get your new oils into that one:)

That's right Ron, I tried painting at sea ages ago, besides the obvious motion problem it just wasn't the right atmosphere or lighting conditions... it's hard to explain but it just didn't feel right. Figure painting is a hobby to be enjoyed in the peace and quiet of your own home I think. (For me anyway.)
