Hi all
Have had this old cowboy figure hanging about for ages , thought I would have ago at changing s things and adding a few bits and bobs .
As you will see from the per chop pics he was holding the saddle over his shoulder in a very awkward and unconvincing way .
Jim very kindley offered to sculpt me a new hand and has made a cracking job ..thanks Jim your a Dimond , we also cut top of head off ..well Jim did great job .
Wanted to give him a better cowboy hat , the brim on the cast one was just so thick . Would like to have the front and back turned up ..see how it goes .
I have had my first attempt really at magic sculpt and made the cowboy a waist coat , which i am resonably pleased with and was i feel a good starting point into my attempt at sculpting of sorts .Going to make a bigger bandana which will look better .

Getting there, do the back today and do some cleaning up of the front , or might start again getting it thin enough I found quite hard , but as they say practice ,practice practice practice lol

For the hat brim: Don't forget to let the putty start to go off, maybe an hour or two before you roll it out, sprinkle a bit of talc on it to stop it sticking to your tools, cut it to rough shape once rolled thin enough and spot glue it onto his head, then work it till you get the shape you want, you can always sand off the excess once it's all hardened off, you can add the crown of the hat after the brim is all set hard which will make it easier & you won't mess up the brim, got to do it in stages mate. hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs(y)

Cheers mate have been thinking about that process that a great heads up , aim doing the back of the waist coat was thinking should I role out the sculpt out the clay thin then present it to his back and cut to shape or put it on in thin and sculpt it in ? .
Any advice is great mate ,you have properly forgot more than I know lol

Hi guys
Done a bit more completed the back of waist coat , the bandana the glove ,need lots more practice but really enjoying the process. Will attempt the crown of the cowboy hat tomorrow that's the bit aim worried about .

what ever you do don't let Jimbo near it it will end up with very long legs in stockings !!!!!

No horse yet then ;)

Yea it's an interesting process, what I am trying to do as a Virgin sculpter is to accept that this is a long learning process, and with it comes success and dispiontments . Just the process of getting the right thickness of clay , stoping ,taking stock of where I am planing the next move with application ,looking at folds how they fall, how the waist coat would be pulled with his arm in the position it is.

Well had go at hat bit more to do ,bit of shaving once dry , soften up the front grove of the hat, quite please with the hat brim , making bed role and canteen for sadle and have already made rifle scabbard , thinking of putting him on base with fence and water trough want sculpt a holster like rob Duvall in Lomesome dove

Hi mate
Having a quick 5 mins in work lol, yea seems to be coming together , strange started to do holster ,got very frustrating lol finish work on Monday ,morning yahoo I will give you a bell Monday afternoon

Now that's what I call a timely posting Chris , I picked this up at Telford last weekend from Carl Barton in exchange for some bases . It came with no instructions or painting guide but looking at yours I can now see the way forward . I like what you have done with this kit , the hat is a great change . I think I'll go for a more modern cowboy probably a Rodeo Rider type .
