Grenadier, 23rd Royal Welch Fuzileers 1743, in 1/6th scale.

Thanks everyone : this figure seems to have struck a chord here , rather more than my previous ones . I have done conventional sculpted figures as well , in fact I still make small scale figures, but the large size is an altogether different game. The poseability gives you so many options , and...

90mm private of the 95th foot Derbyshire regiment by Maurice Corry

Dear Moz, In the light of those remarks , I withdraw all criticism !

I hesitate to criticise an excellent figure from a great hand... but are we sure that Mine rifle is long enough ? They were about 55" overall, the same length as the preceding muskets, which came well up towards the average man's shoulder.

That's really nice . Good proportions, nice sense of style.

    RAF pilot jacket blue?

Vallejo Luftwaffe Blue 816 would be a good start. As has been said these, things are very tricky and somewhat subjective , but that's a pretty good match with an RAF tunic I have here.

    Grenadier 33rd foot 1776

There's one illustrated in Turner's " Soldier's Accoutrements etc " which has become the bible on equipment since it was published in 2006. No frame . The flap at the back might also be closed with buttons instead of straps. Sorry you are stuck with the wrong item : would it be huge job to...

    Grenadier 33rd foot 1776

I think the goatskin ones had a canvas lining, rectangular and about 18" wide, but that would be invisible : all you would see was the goatskin and the buff straps. There was no stiffening in them beyond that. Goatskins mostly white but sometimes white and brown in patches .Three short buff...

    Royal Tank Regiment

A little more blending on the face perhaps ? Couple of accuracy points... The lining of the hood should be the same darker khaki woolen fabric as the collar . And the RTR badge is white metal, not brass , so you might want to change the colour of the big one on the plinth .
  9. Tony Barton

Grenadier, 23rd Royal Welch Fuzileers 1743, in 1/6th scale.

This chap was made as much for the challenge as anything , since the uniform is quite elaborate, and took some planning to put together. He represents a Grenadier of the RWF at Dettingen , 1743, and is based on the 1742 Cloathing book and the Morier paintings from a little later. The...

    WIP Critique Somme 1916

Lovely piece of work. If I might remark : the helmet should be apple green rather than that dark shade, which was used in late WW2, not 1916. And the webbing is perhaps too light .

    WIP Boy fusilier, Boer War

He's a great subject, but I rather suspect that he's dressed up for the photo, rather than being an enlisted soldier. He's wearing a sort of generic outfit, rather than something regulation, but it's reminiscent of Mounted Infantry for some reason.. Be interested to hear some other opinions. I...

Those are truly excellent. And what a refreshing subject.

    Adding hair to a figure

If you want long straight fine hair as you explain, your best bet would probably be a doll's house shop r supplier, who sell very fine acrylic hair for wigging 1/12th dolls. It comes in rather vivid colours , but they may be what you want. Leave the cat alone....

    Adding hair to a figure

I add real hair regularly to 1/6th heads, but they are of course so big that it's not a particularly difficult job. For smaller scales it might be rather harder. The best material is the finer sorts of hair from soft toys, cropped from the toy in tufts and then rammed into small areas of glue on...

    Polish TKS tankette crew 1:72

Those are brilliant. Best 1/72nd figures I've seen for a long time.

    Eugène Leliepvre 1908-2013

His work making large-scale figures was my direct inspiration to make historical 1/6th figures.

    flintlock muskets..some questions about

The little leather bag attached to the rear of the sling is a frizzen cover, which slides over the frizzen or striking steel pan cover part of the lock. It stops the flint scratching the frizzen , and prevents accidental sparking. It's not a muzzle cover : I don't think it would reach ! Those...

Uniform question- Royal North British Dragoons "Scots Greys"

The change in the lace occurred with the complete change in style of the jacket, with the 1812 changes which took effect in 1813.
