  1. Tony Barton

    Officer Of Los Tercios

Nicely painted indeed. But he seems to have lost the peak from his burgonet.

    Sergeant, 72nd Highlanders, Afghanistan 1880.

Made this fellow a few months ago now, but after the reception of my Culloden figure I thought people might like to see him. The 72nd Duke of Albany's ( as they were before amalgamation ) were in India for some time before the Second Afghan War, so were still wearing the old pouchbelt equipment...

News Art Girona 2013.officer, 3rd Regiment Of Foot. Grenadier, 1751

He's a Grenadier officer, hence the fusil , normal for the officers of that company. Centre company officers carried the spontoon, officially . But the facings of the coat can be changed to match the cap, rather than the other way round, since the detail on the cap is sculpted on.

News Art Girona 2013.officer, 3rd Regiment Of Foot. Grenadier, 1751

It's a super figure, but I think there's some confusion about the Regiment. The Buffs are the 3rd Foot, had buff facings, and a green dragon on their ( buff fronted ) cap . But this cap appears to be that of the 8th King's Regiment , with blue facings and the horse in a wreath .

    Price's Regiment, Culloden 1746 , 1/6th Scale .

The latest finished figures off my workbench , this chap represents a hatman from one of the Line Regiments ( later the 14th Foot, later still the Prince of Wales' Own West Yorks ) present at Culloden in April 1746. All scratchbuilt on a slightly shortened articulated commercial body. The...

    Completed Critique Grenadier Arw

It's a nice figure, and you've done it justice. I would only concur about the distressed leather on the pouch being a little too much. I would otherwise remark that the Long Land had a large brass buttplate , and probably a polished barrel at that date ; powder was not normally worn in the hair...

    The medieval archer. 120mm.

But Sergey's figure is not from Agincourt , but from the Wars of the Roses in the 1460s , for which the outfit is entirely appropriate.

    Tommy Bust

Very impressive, wonderful painting.... so I hate to mention that the helmet should be khaki , not dark green . WW1 helmets were first issued in dull apple green , in time for the Somme battles in July 1916 . After that they had a rim added ,and were painted khaki, not unlike the colour of the...

British Infantryman Somme 1916 Young Miniatures

That's impressive. For 1914 you would need to replace the helmet with a cap : helmets were not issued until 1916, and the first issue seem to have been painted apple green. The shovel is fine : one of the usual places it was carried.

Karkee Color Is Driving Me To Drink

Might I recommend some Vallejo colours which match the various colours ? First , the raw , unblancoed webbing : use 914 or 880. The colour varied slightly depending on where it was manufactured . Blanco seems to have come in three main colours :~ Khaki Green light ( use 881 ) Khaki Green...

    Maiwand, Afghanistan 1880, In 1/6th .

Just finished these two A Private of the 66th , and Gunner Collis V.C. of the RHA. Everything is entirely scratchbuilt except for the articulated plastic bodies inside. All the details come from Barthorp's excellent article in Military Illustrated No. 17. Maiwand was a now-forgotten...

    WIP Young's Tanky.

Looking good, but the lining of the hood should be the same dark khaki as the collar. Both were faced/lined with woolen cloth , rather than the khaki drill canvas of rest of the suit

WIP Chasseur a cheval trumpeter - russia 1812

That's going to look wonderful. The foil is a very old trick , but one of the best ever.

    Bugler 68th inkerman 1854, stormtroopers

It a nice subject , but I'm a bit worried about the bugle : it looks much more like a cavalry trumpet than the usual Bb bugle . There were some single loop bugles around in the early 19c , but they had much bigger bells. And it's the 68th Regiment, who were in the Light Division .

    1/6th Corporal, Lancashire Fusiliers, Gallipoli 1915 .

Just finished this chap , the culmination of quite a lot of work getting the necessary parts together. The figure is mostly of interest because of the rather unusual kit. The 8th Battalion were a Territiorial unit sent first to Egypt, then to Gallipoli as reinforcements in May 1915.They had...
