John, Nice work, I like the folds and creases. I think getting that stuff to look right is one of the hardest parts of sculpting, at least for me, anyway. Shane

    Why your chosen subjects?

Like Guy, my sculpting and painting often relate to my ancestry. Sort of a way to get in touch with my past, I guess. In the beginning, I was into Confederate subjects-- after looking into family history. I also have an interest in the Revolutionary War--because of a couple of ancestors. But the...

    Interesting topic

Rob, Could have been Caesar, Herodotus, Diodorus, Srabo, Tacitus...don't have my books handy so I can't say who. "Pale" is relative, I guess. Still I imagine there is plenty of variation. Shane

    Interesting topic

It may have been said earlier--I didn't read every posting--but ancient writers noted the pale skin of the Celts. I believe the references were to warriors who you'd expect to be out in the weather alot. Shane

    US WW2 photo references

Does anyone have a recommendation for US PTO/CBI and US tanker uniform details? I'm looking for photos of the real stuff. Need detail shots like the tanker's helmet, etc. Thanks, Shane

    ALEXANDER

I might be wrong, but I think Leo was involved in a competitor's Alex movie that has since been shut down. Thank you, God! I'm no fan of Ollie Stone, but the attention given to the uniforms in this one has me thinking the history won't get too badly butchered. I've noticed they've put a new...

Quang, At the pool table. Need to see it again. Sellars was a genius.

    ALEXANDER

Quang, "...birdie, num, num..." The best Sellars movie, IMO I've been drooling over this upcoming Alex movie for quite awhile. The authentic uniform details has me thinking this won't be just another sandals & swords film. But Angelina as Olympia has me a little concerned. Shane

    American Colonial Ranger 1724-64

Gary, Thanks for the infomation. I've been thinking about trying a Ranger bust for quite awhile. Maybe one of these books will give me the added incentive. Pete, I looked at the Continental book last night. Not really my area of knowledge, but it seemed pretty good to me. Although, most all...

    American Colonial Ranger 1724-64

Gary, Do you think this is the book to buy if you're only buying one book on Rangers?

    American Colonial Ranger 1724-64

Gary, Thanks. I've been wanting to know what you guys thought of this book. I think I saw somewhere that there will be one on Rangers in the Southern Colonies as well. Shane

    One of their own

Gary, I understand about "slow" and the ebb and flow of interest. I'm right there with you. Besides, it's the end results that matter, not the time it takes to get there. Your results are excellent! Shane

    One of their own

Gary, Good SBS, I'm enjoying seeing you work through this one. Looking forward to more installments. Can't you work faster? :-) Shane

    Angus McBrice

Well, I guess I'll be the voice of dissent on this subject. McBride has his good books and his not so good books. Perhaps, as has been suggested, his authenticity depends on the direction he's been given by the author. Two examples of just how erratic his work can be are his treatments of the...
