    General Hancock bust

Well done! A very creative display idea too.

    Centurion

Nice job! I know from experience how difficult this kit is to assemble. I like the textures you achieved with the armor and fabric. The helmet really looks lived-in.

    Black Watch epaulettes 1880s

All I could find was the painting guide from an old figure that says the "regimental device" on the epaulettes were silver. It looks like the device is "RH" for royal Highland. It's funny that none of the reference books ever mentions this detail. Hope that helps.

A Few photos from SCAHMS 2017

Hello, I've put up some photos I took last weekend at the 2017 SCAHMS show here: https://www.flickr.com/gp/149194254@N06/0892J5 Sorry I didn't take more (too busy yaking), but I'm sure others will share their photos, as there were quite a few people with cameras and phones at work. The turn...

Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, 1835

I have a limited number of resin copies of this unpainted 1/9th scale resin bust sculpted by Matt Springer. Matt offered to create a custom bust as a raffle prize at the 2009 APG Show in Gettysburg, PA and I won! Matt used period portraits (highly idealized) as well as the few surviving photos...

    Another beauty David! Nice work.

    The Outlaw

Thank you everyone! I like your version too James; the arms look very relaxed and natural. Getting the torso and arms to fit together was a real challenge. I too conceived this project as a gift for a friend who is a big fan of "The Outlaw Josey Wales", and this particular example is in his...

    The Outlaw

Hello all. Life has distracted me from the hobby for a few years, but I'm back to sculpting and painting and would like to share my latest work. This is a 1/9th scale bust of a famous western movie character ( any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental...wink, wink) I...

How Do You Fix Clear Parts????

Hi Chris, You can file and sand clear plastic down to a scale thiness, then use progressivley finer sand paper until the part is smooth and the scratches from sanding are gone. This works best if you only sand one side. Then apply Future floor wax to the part, and let dry. It magically becomes...

SCAHMS California Show 17 th. and 18th. of March.

Hi Matt, If you want your piece judged on paintwork alone, enter "Painters"; judges in the "Open" category will look at other qualities, such as difficulty, imagination, and overall impact as well. Hope that helps.

    Painting eyebrows.

Hi Patrick, Notice that most people's eybrows hang right from the edge of the orbital cavity. On my 54's this tends to merge with the deep shadow in the corner of the eye (like what Steven noticed). They usually thin out considerably at the outer edge of the eye. A tiny highlight at the top of...

    New Web site for SCAHMS

Thanks Brian, I'll give some thought to those pesky lables. SCAHMS has many very talented and enthusiastic modelers, and I think one of the reasons is the interaction and advice shared at meetings. The high quality of members' work is mainly due to the generosity of our senior members (in...

    New Web site for SCAHMS

SCAHMS web site is finally back on line at www.scahms.org . It's pretty bare bones at the moment, but all the basic info is there, plus a gallery featuring some of our lesser known members. I hope to have more features and pages up and working in the near future. SCAHMS web site

    photography help

It seems, from all the different techniques in use, that a lot depends on the camera your using. Mine works well with a dark, blue-grey background that I light with a 100w incandescent bulb (sunrise effect). I use two desk lamps with 60w and 40w bulbs above, and on either side, slighly to the...
