    Maurice Corry 82nd Airborne paratrooper

i think you did well on all the other areas though! eyes are a pain and no mistake. my technique is to paint the eye in a dark colour like Umber. next i paint the Iris in my chosen shade, then the pupil in a shade of black and finally put a dot of off-white either side in each corner followed by...

    painting Flesh Tones

here ya go! debil -- i tend to think of them as a Transparancy because like inks, most folks use them over an acrylic which are most certainly opaque Enion- the book is called Colour Theory and its by Jose M. Parramon and printed by Watson Guptill. ISBN is 0-8230-0755-3. bought it years...

    painting Flesh Tones

try this mate! a book i have on Classical pianting says you only need 4 colours; magenta, green, cyan blue and yellow, which mixed in varying amounts can make any flesh tone or shadows/highlights you want. truth is that real shadows are not Reddish/brown/orange ect. they are 'Greys' so as...

    Maori Ariki 1840's - 120mm

dont be too hard on yerself! hi Tony, tough job tattoos! are you using a 'Straight' colour or is it mixed up a bit? me, i treat Tattoos like Tartan and include colours from the background in the mix so they look part of the skin rather than on top of it. reckon yours are looking fine...

    Pegaso Templar 90mm

i like it! hi Robo, well i am of a different opinion on the eyes, the hood would indeed create strong shadows, especially if he was turned away fro the light. if this is the case then you could modify the skin tone to a Grey-er one which would shadow the skin tone and give a sense of realism...

    Painting has Plateaued-newbie needs help...

a change is as good as a rest ... and all i was going to say was that everyone 'plateaus' from time to time mate. i often find the best remedy is to take a break and do some research ie mess about with mixes and do some reading while not seriously trying to finish a piece. i generally pick a...

    Maori Ariki 1840's - 120mm

nice job Tony! looks like the 'pre- carving' worked in your favour, should pick out very well. 'He' has a proud bearing. liking the skin tone very much, very rich finish with great depth i feel. so what colour do the Maouri tattooists use then Tony? i know little of these interesting Folks...

Black Undercoating i would guess Hardy uses Black undercoat both to deepen his colours and to save on endless BlackLining with a Brush! Am i correct Hardy? its why i use it! but then i come from a Games Workshop background where Black is the preferred/most common undercoat.
