    New from ScaleBro "Gaelic-Irish Warriors"

Those are nicely done . . . aren't they from the Angus McBride illustration that appeared in one of the Men at Arms books?

    200mm Officer Chasseurs-a-Cheval - Mitches Military Models

In case anyone else is curious, I happened to find this thread on PF: http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/ranks-in-the-napoleonic-army.23848/ So it would appear that five chevrons indicates a Major and six a Colonel. Ospreys' Chasseurs of the Guard by Peter Young, says eight chevrons indicate...

    200mm Officer Chasseurs-a-Cheval - Mitches Military Models

A beautiful piece of work. I note the five chevons on the cuffs of the officer's dolman. What rank does that indicate?

Thanks for posting that, Martin. A very helpful reference.

Carl's Cuirassier gets some legs . . . six of them.

Good eyes, Martin. The changes I made to the shabraque had the effect of lifting the rider higher in the saddle. I have now hogged out the rider's inner thighs, reduced the height of the folded cape where it meets the right turnback, and carved a wedge out of the top of the shabraque to...

Carl's Cuirassier gets some legs . . . six of them.

Here are some views showing the modifications I have made based on your suggestions. - Rider pitched forward. - Saddle cloth reduced in length. - Shabraque retooled for a deeper arc in the back and wolf's teeth reduced in size. Regarding the latter, I found a photo on the net showing a Musee...

Carl's Cuirassier gets some legs . . . six of them.

Thanks, all, for your input and kind words of encouragement. The suggestions you have made are helpful and target aspects of the sculpt that I have overlooked or intend to do down the road. Richie, your thought about canting the rider more forward is consistent with my plan. As it is, the...

Carl's Cuirassier gets some legs . . . six of them.

Like many other PF forumites, I think Carl Reid's French Cuirassier bust is a wonderful sculpt that could only be improved upon by giving it legs and a horse. So, for the last few weeks, I have been practicing my meager sculpting skills in an attempt to do just that. The attached photos show the...

It should look like this when you're done . . .

    WIP Officer of Cuirassiers

The pom-pom thing is known as a "marmoset" (not a monkey).

    Completed George Washington

Not my era, nor my scale, but a very, very nice piece of work. Congratualtions, Pasquale.

New Release - Napoleonic British Infantry Officer

I suspect he was shot on account of his dancing.

    Preview French Cuirassier bust

I don't mean to pick nits, but if you are still tweaking it, the bottom of the plastron is a bit pointed for the 1st Empire period. It should be more rounded, as shown on this original: http://www.thierrydemaigret.com/html/fiche.jsp?id=1136557&np=18&lng=fr&npp=20&ordre=1&aff=1&r= It's still a...

    Preview French Cuirassier bust

It's a great sculpt and I really like all the energy and dynamism that Carl has invested in it. The only fault I can see is that the guard of the French heavy cavalry sabre in 1815 had three branches plus a knucklebow. The sabre shown in the photos has only two branches and a knucklebow, which...

Preview "Old Abe" 8th Wisconsin Bust

Yeah, Carl, put some legs on that cheesehead and he'll go well with the Virgina Cav piece (currently awaiting paint).

Fighter Ace 'Billy' Bishop - Mitches Military Models

I think it's a very nice sculpt but, for character and visual interest, I think the "pre-hero" Billy Bishop, below, would have been a good choice. It's nice to see a Canadian subject in the mix, especially with Andrey's skill behind it.

    200mm 1st Virginian Cavalry Trooper

Thanks, Carl, that is precisely what I was thinking of doing.
