    Problems with Vallejo's Matt varnish

I've used their Matt varnish and wasn't pleased with the effect. I found their Matt medium added directly to the mixes was much better but for reds and blues even that wasn't 100% flat. Colin

Nice start Lars. Grey is a challenging colour to work with indeed. I've found a couple of grey swedes in my small library... Sharp looking uniforms! As usual I'll be following your project with great interest! Paint on Colin

    "Eavesdropping, " Zaporizhian Cossack

Beautifully done Paul... This is my favourite bust of all and you've done a great job top to bottom!!! It's a beautiful sculpt and it's sad to hear of the passing of Greeny. Had some back and forth with him when I picked this piece up when it came out... he seemed genuinely passionate about...

Fantastic!!! Love the dynamic pose... tons of character. Great to see your pieces covering rarely depicted subjects. Can't wait to see some colour on this guy... blue and yellow? Colin

Nice job Bob... that kind of lace is a nightmare to paint but the result of the work is rewarding! Don't listen to Nap! Busts may be a nice diversion but legs are where it's at!!!!! ;):D:LOL: Looking forward to your next piece Colin

Thanks guys... Ask Roger, I've done blue to death ;) As for yellow, I've found a mix for a strong primary yellow that I've gotten comfortable with and result is usually one I'm happy with... not so much when I work with white :( As for landscape references... where I live in Southern Ontario...

Thanks guys. Great pics Franceso... Lovely landscape. I wasn't dead on but pretty close to the low mountain scrub of the first pic. I think I'm going to start collecting regional landscape pics as well as uniform plates... Could be helpful yes? Colin

Thank you Franceso and Eduardo, I appreciate your kind comments very much! I really didn't dig into the background of the Sardinian army during this time... what was the landscape like in the 1741-47 campaign region? Mountains? Flat? Farmland? Forest? I should have done my homework better...

Niiiiice!!!! The layers of inks has really given the flesh tones great depth and smooth transitions... probably your best skin tones to date. The red hair (not at all easy) looks spot on as well. In the selfie pic he looks to have fallen right off your own family tree ;) Following along as...

Hey all Thanks so much for the kind words and support. I wasn't sure how to place him as not knowing his specific regiment I couldn't know where he'd been either. A quick check told me Sardinian forces fought along side the Austrians during the Italian campaigns... great. But where in Italy and...

Thanx Andrew! There was some great reference material offered... nothing seemed to match exactly to the sculpt. At the end of the day I wish I knew what regiment is represented in the original plate. Cheers Colin
