    Different brushes for different mediums?

Hey, all - Since I got into painting busts, I've completed six. My general process is to zenithal prime with black, then white, acrylic spray cans. Then I'll lay in the base colors with acrylics, followed by mostly oils for shading, highlighting, and finish work. I do, however, tend toward...

Completed 1/10 Gallipoli bust from Dolman Miniatures

Great start! I'll be interested to see how acrylics over oils works for you. Oils typically take longer to not just dry, but cure, than acrylics, which can lead to cracking and - possibly - looong times to set. That's why I generally use oils over acrylics. Good luck! :)

    Making tears and drops ...

Been thinking on ways to make drops of water, tears, and spittle on, dripping from, or connected to, a bust or figure. Any proven techniques, tips, or ideas from the community will be appreciated! ;)

    WIP Lakota Chief

Me again! :sneaky: Made some progress on the Lakota Chief (La Meridiana Miniatures, 200mm), but MAN, am I struggling with the striping and the beadwork! I can tell right now that I'll have to go back and forth between the white and the base colors, until I get the balance right. Then I'll...

    Sabot Miniatures "Pueblo Indian"

Hey, all - This is the Sabot Miniatures "Pueblo Indian" in 1/12 scale, SMFB005. Some challenges here, but nothing insurmountable. Comments, etc. welcome! :)

    WW2 British Airborne in D-Day

No doubt, that's gonna be great! From a design perspective, I really like that the back view proves that the front view is realistic, by showing how they get all their heads in the door. We assume reality when looking at pictures (like your inspirational photo), but sometimes in modeling we see...

    WIP Lakota Chief

Hey, all - This is the La Meridiana Miniatures 200 mm (~1/9 scale) BFR-32 Lakota Chief bust. It's in-process; it presents a few challenges for me, but that's part of growing and advancing, eh? ;) The base colors are laid in with Mission Models Paints (acrylics); the flesh is brought up with...

Trying to get ahead of the game

Fascinating! And your head-to-cork ratio problem is obvious: You need to drink more corked beverages. ;)

Review The Lake Elf And The Fairy, 1/9th Scale, elGen/Mokha Blue Miniatures

Yes, good review! I also have this kit, and I was also impressed with the quality, detail, and swifter-than-expected delivery. AND - my base was slightly, but noticeably warped. I contacted Mokha Blue, sent a picture, and they were surprised (at the warpage, not my rugged good looks ;)). They...

WIP Need advice on Asian skin tones .....El Greco 1-12th Samurai

This is the El Greco Samurai bust in 1/12 scale. This bust is very much in the early stages (I even need to craft a tsuba for the wakazashi), and I'm really struggling with the basic skin tone. I just can't seem to get one with which I'm satisfied. I've watched a few YouTube videos on painting...

    Q on Samurai yukata colors

Holy Moley, Mirosoft - I don't think I'll be painting that design in ANY scale, anytime soon.

    Forum censorship

Re-thinking this a little more ... This is an issue that is actually addressed in the International Plastic Modelers Society 2022 National Contest Rules, section 5, posted here for your review. I might suggest that PF consider adopting the same guidelines as enforced by a major organization...

    Q on Samurai yukata colors

Hey, all - I've started laying in the basic colors and shade areas on the El Greco samurai bust (1/12). Having just begun, I'm not looking for critiques, but rather color advice. I'm pretty sold on the bright(er) blue for the main color of the yukata (is that correct? The kimono wrap), but...

Roman legionary Dacian campaign - bust

Are the helmet pieces separate from the head? I have a similar bust where the helmet and head are 1-piece; makes the face more difficult to paint, at least for me.

    Never satisfied....

I've gotten there at times, too. But frankly, my "shelf of doom" is populated by more models (I do planes and tanks) that I started because I wanted to try something - an assembly technique, a detailing approach, a modification, etc. Once I reached that point, my "Squirrel!" gene kicked in, and...

    Forum censorship

From the standpoint of forum life and life cycle, I agree here. There's always a clearly approved area, a less clearly disapproved area, and a gray area between the two. Without the gray area to push into, a forum (or any other type of community/interest group), runs the risk of becoming stale...

    Alaskan Tlingit bust(s)

Hey, all - I'm looking for Alaskan Tlingit busts, but the pickin's are pretty slim. The only one I've found so far is here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Na6qJ , and I'm not sure about it. Does anyone have any knowledge or leads on Tlingit busts/figures? TIA for any help!
