    One for the road

One last post to close out 2015. This relief sculpture is based on a figure study of a Continental Staff Officer by Historical artist Keith Rocco. I have to thank Keith for allowing me to use his painting for the subject of my latest donation to the Artist Preservation Group. The...

One for the road part 2

Figure 7 I then placed a sewing needle into a pin vise and proceeded to transfer the subject by poking holes through the major elements that make up the painting. This method gives me the most accurate representation of what it is I am copying. Figure 8 I then remove the Wax or...

next reedoak WW2 printed figure, 1/72 this time

If it's printed it's not really sculpting in the traditional sense. It's very realistic that's for sure.

Musket American Independence War in 75mm scale 1/24

It may look flat but it is in fact triangular. I've seen a style of bayonet carried by German troops of the period that had a flat blade.

Musket American Independence War in 75mm scale 1/24

Bayonets of this period were triangular. The scabbard should be triangular as well. The bayonet scabbard looks more like a flat type carried during WW1 or WW2 period example.

    Retro Retro Review

A lot of the Men at Arms Collection figures I recall were not that good. There were a few that were not bad, but for the most part they don't hold up that well to today's standards IMO. That could possibly be one reason why pictures of them are rare.

    Completed Pegaso-54MM 28th Massachusetts 1862

Nice painting. On a side note, they did not begin issuing corps badges until early April of 1863.

Military Images Magazine features articles and photographic images from the Mexican war period up to World War one, with emphasis on the Civil War. A number of the articles are biographical for those photographs featuring identified images. Most issues contain a feature article on uniforms, with...

WIP Continental Infantryman, 1st Maryland, 1781

Where is the channel for the ramrod? It appears to disappear into the stock of the musket.

    Just for fun

Silly little projects like this help to get me out of a funk and back into more serious projects. What could be more silly than Yosemite Sam as a 5th New York zouave? Continue reading...

    1/48 Replacement Heads

Hornet does make a few sets of 1/32 scale heads. Unfortunately there are only a few sets compared to their 1/35 head sets.

    1/48 Replacement Heads

Very well done. May have to get a set. A 1/32 set would be great as well.

    Anne Bonny from Nutsplanet!!

Fantastic sculpt. Though attractive I like that the face is not sculpted to look like a supermodel.

"Ultimate Unatomy Kit" series are on Indiegogo

These would work well for fantasy figures. Unfortunately they appear too muscular for doing historical figures. With a little carving and sanding you could reduce the musculature. A number of manufacturers have released armature kits over the years. For some reason they insist on them looking...
