    Affordable High res printer

http://oldworldlabs.com/product/owl-nano/ This printer prints in layer resolutions of .0001 mm or .1 micron. Amazing.

    I'm Ready to Print

Thanks again for the advise and the info. One issue with taking more time with the body is, polygon count. If you are going to do a halfway decent job on a likeness it takes at least 350 million of the little buggers and that is nearly 1/3rd of what Shapeway allows. I spend another 400 million...

    I'm Ready to Print

Wow, incredible information Blue Thunder and what an amazing print. I think at this point it is important to point out that Shapeways technology is probably the FDM type of printing. As asked for here are some of the prints of this project I just received. Incredibly these are the uncleaned (by...

    I'm Ready to Print

Blue Thunder. Yeah, I just ran out of polygons when I got to those areas so I'll finish them when I get the prints with wax or clay. Please share all you know about 3D printing on this forum. I've been doing it as a customer for about 2 years now. I would like to hear about it from someone who...

    Forghi's 3D

Waterman, DS only means digital sculpting. The print material is not good enough to produce models in and it is very expensive if you want a durable print. The type of material you just described is an acrylic based material. It is held together cyno acrylate ??? not sure if that was the correct...

    Thanks Wayne.

    Forghi's 3D

Ah yes, I really like the renderings that come out of ZB. You should pick up meshlab for your cavities.

Discovering how to use the 3D space

While I'm waiting for JFK I started back on Abe. When I started Abe I pretty much sculpted the likeness eye to hand because I couln't figure out how to transfer dimensions from the numerous photos I have to the project I was working on so that they were relative to the 3D space. During the JFK...

    edgars figure sculpts

Welcome marakech. Those are absolutely stunning pieces. What software tools do you use for sculpting, rendering and parting your pieces out?

    Forghi's 3D

I used to do the sam thing forghi till I learned about meshlab and uniform mesh resampling. You don't have to do any of the smoothing and wall thickness is consistent through out. BTW, what software do you use to render?

    Forghi's 3D

BTW, how do you create your hollow spaces? I use meshlab which, like the other two is free.

    Forghi's 3D

I use the same two. They are great, but what do you render the model in?
  13. RKapuaala

    Forghi's 3D

WOW! What applications are you using to sculpt and part out the pieces? Those are just incredible.

    I'm Ready to Print

That is a good point you made about printing Blue Thunder, but keep in mind that my prints are the cheap kind because I'm still learning (this June will be my second year). I haven't by my own estimation create any thing good enough to warrant using the better printers. I got close on the Plump...

    I'm Ready to Print

Thanks for that sweet graphic on Lara Croft Blue Thunder. One other thing about digital hair, especially the kind you see in games and movies, is that it is really generated by the rendering application and not the sculptor or even the texture artist. That requires a bit of physics as you have...

I don't think it can get any better

Wayne, I only have photos, no original, I am studying him and doing the best I can. Any particular areas you think I should improve on? I am not satisfied with the likeness or the pose and have been reworking it. Constructive critism would be most welcome.

Shapeways is a good place to start

Did I mention it does a fairly decent job of remeshing. Not as versatile as Zbrush but its free and its handy. Also a good way to learn how to sculpt digitally.

Shapeways is a good place to start

Okay, fixed the thin walls on the sprews in meshmixers in a couple of minutes. One of the hand features in meshmixer is the ability to autogroup the face sets. Thats all the color areas on the model. Then you can select vertexs by groups instead of individual an perform what ever you want on...

Shapeways is a good place to start

Sadly you are right Meehan about the quality of the print. I haven't reached the level of competence to pony up for the really good prints. I spent 11 USD on this print compared to 275 USD I was quoted at other sites. It usually takes weeks, even months to turn the print into something useable...
