This is a 4.75 inch bust I sculpted a while back and I just got the print from Shapeways yesterday.
Right out of the package it looked very good, but because the material is clear and frosted it is hard to tell unless you paint it. I scrubbed it down for a few minutes with a tooth brush and a simple green solution and let it dry over night.
When I got up this morning I hastily threw on a coat of paint with a brush. I was happy to discover that the support material in the back was totally cleaned away and the piece was oriented in such a way that any registration lines were on the bottom of the piece where they are not visible.

At this size the detail is incredible. I wish they allowed a higher poly count because the small amount of detail like wrinkles that I was able to get in printed out very crisp in deed. This is my first piece ever that I did not have to clean for an hour or more. In fact all I had to do was wash the piece off; which is what I do before I paint any piece.
Excellent JOB SHAPEWAYS!!!

Looks great! I still would try to get away from shapeways for printing. A clean print is certainly not the norm from them, I personally wouldnt waste my money with them.

Cost wise, you can't beat them. I don't mind cleaning a little if it saves me 200 dollars. For this peace it would probably of saved me twice that amount if I had to clean it.

I hear ya, but every print I have got from them has been junk. Even cleaning couldnt save them. I hope you continue to get lucky because you are sculpting some nice work these days.

Wow 2 times in a row!

Not as good on the rifle

But that's okay really. I was hoping that the stock would be a little grainy so as to give the rifle stock a wood like finish. The smooth parts are few and I can smooth those out well enough with some time and patiences.

Sorry about the images, I was excited and took them with my cell phone. Also not that some of the bumps are from my quick application of some aging paint. I do that before priming, it helps me see the imperfections. The paint comes off very easily with a little simple green because it is so old.

Hello Pedro,
If you say this looks great;..I say compared to what ?
Your blog......."Be yourself. The world worships the original".....................As far as RK goes;....I think he should ''STUDY" the "ORIGINAL"...........................Wayne

Wayne, I only have photos, no original, I am studying him and doing the best I can. Any particular areas you think I should improve on? I am not satisfied with the likeness or the pose and have been reworking it. Constructive critism would be most welcome.
